Default Looking for advice on exhaust setup

For a while now, I have had the Flowmaster American Thunder Cat Back system on my truck. It is a 5.0 V8. Just last week, we removed the Super 40 series muffler and put in a Y-Pipe. Now, when accelerating, it is very loud and sounds as if the truck is farting.

I am looking to quiet it down a bit and get rid of the fart sound, but, want it to be louder than the Super 40 was. Anyone have any suggestions on what muffler I should go with, or, should I put in a resonator, or, perhaps something else altogether?

What brands of mufflers do you all like, and, what series within each? Just looking for some help so I can get the truck sounding like how I want it to, which is a deep, throaty type sound with some rumble to it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a magnaflow #14419 on my 2013 f150 5.0. It has a nice tone at idle and under acceleration. it is a little quieter than no muffler but louder than the flowmaster. I have no resonator and a Y pipe after the muffler.

I have a Coffin 741B muffler on my 2014 5.0. I like it because it's different and the company is local to me. Check out their website http://thecoffinmuffler.com/

Hi Funk, if you were looking to quiet down the truck, we would recommend switching to a muffler with a larger size like our 12249 unit. This one has been a popular choice to use as an upgrade on light trucks. If we can offer you any help with choosing the correct muffler, please feel free to drop us a PM!

I ended up replacing my Dynomax VT with a Magnaflow a couple days ago due to the failures that were happening with the Dynomax mufflers. My experience has been that the sound is exactly the same tone but the Magnaflow is slightly deeper. The drone that the Magnaflow makes happens at 1,600 RPM instead of 1,800 to 2,000 like previous trucks I've had. At all other RPMs there is not much drone at all, just really good sound. I'm extremely happy so far.

Do you think there's a big difference in sound between resonator and no resonator? I have a 14" magnaflow now with the resonator. Thinking about taking it off though.
