Default Lock on the rear bumper?

What the heck is the lock on the rear bumper for? I'm not talking about the tailgate lock.

^^^ yep

It's a good idea to spray some silicon lube on that mechanism every year. They are prone to freeze up when not used.

Excerpted from the owner's manual ...
Removing the spare tire

1. Use the ignition key to remove
the lock cylinder from the access
hole of the bumper to allow access
to the guide tube. ...
Don't have one ? (owner's manual)

and once you open it the extension to lower the spare has to go in at an angle towards the centre of the truck, not straight in

I never understand why people do that crap, but hopefully the locks make some to think twice. I only wished the spare tire was on an electric switch to lower it down.

you could carry a cordless drill, be more useful and easier to maintain than anything electrical in that area (dirt/vibration/moisture)
