Default Locating VIN on engine?

Long story short, found out that the previous owner of my truck damaged the original engine beyond repair and had to put a new engine in and it cancelled the powertrain warranty I was told it had when I purchased the truck. Now I'm wanting to see if I can find an identifying number on the replaced engine to see where it came from because there are no records of Ford paying to replace the engine, and I'd like to know how many miles off my odometer is, as well as help my case when I bring it up to the dealership that sold me the vehicle. oh and its an ecoboost in a 2013

So does anyone know where I can find a vin or some other identifying number on the engine itself?

They don't put vins on the engines.. if your lucky you might only find the build date and maybe where it was built...ford reman engines never have any info on them

Sounds like there's not enough info here to determine much. You bought it from a Ford dealer? That dealer claims they didn't replace the engine? or you know that Ford didn't replace the engine...it was done by an outside shop? or was it done by Ford just not that dealer? If the customer paid for the engine swap at a Ford dealer, more likely a short block, its warrantied by Ford for 3Yr/Unlimited miles. (The block). since in a short block repair the components are swapped onto the new engine those would carry their original warranty. If Ford put the short block in, the powertrain would still be in effect...unless there was gross negligence on the previous operators part and Ford cancelled the PT part of the warranty...which is probably why he dumped the truck. But if you knew the PT was out and the dealer disclosed that to you, why would you buy it? (that's rhetorical)

You might run a Carfax on the vehicle to see if it was entered when the engine was replaced and by whom. Depending on when it was done, if it was replaced by a Ford dealer they can run an OASIS to see when it shows up as being replaced, that's only if any Ford dealer replaced it.
