Default Lighting questions

I have a 2010 stx and I want to put lights inside my running boards so when I open the door the lights come on. I was thinking about wiring them to my dome light that come on when my doors open. Is this possible? And would I just be able to put the wires to the dome light fuse or would I need to wire them to the actual dome light?

I thought about putting some LED strips under the trim on the doors so when they open they light up the whole area and run the wire from inside the door.

Does anyone know if this can be done? Or how it can be wired? Any help would be appreciated.
