Lease question
^Good info. I have over a 700 per month payment as I rolled 6K negative equity into my 34.9K loan for the truck getting rid of my mustang and durango which I had trouble paying for when overtime dried up. I'm thinking a bare bones FX4 with EB w hopefully slightly better MPG than my 5.4 with no money down should be around 550 a month lease which is 200 free per month in my pocket...well the baby sitter's pocket.
Make sure you check around, some dealers just need to move some trucks for the month, I almost signed with a dealer on my 08' for $450/ month and backed out. Went to another dealer found a truck to deal on and when I seen he was willing to deal, and the price was close to the one I wanted from the other dealer he end up trading trucks with the guy and I got the truck I wanted for $399/month......same exact truck different dealer 50 bucks less/month.

Actually, if you don't roll anything over, you should be able to get a fully loaded crew fx4 eco with 12,500 miles a year for mid $400's.
*Sorry, thats as long as you can get a plan
Family first. Then savings. Then junk you drive, own, want, wish you had, et cetra.
Unless you can write off the cost of the truck at tax time, leasing makes zero sense to this money manager.
Thanks again for the info. I went over all the options and my wife actually prefers to keep the truck as she likes the headed/cooled seats and her view is we are close to 18 payments into the loan so might as well keep on doing what we are doing and not have a car payment at all in a few years and still have a nice low mileage truck (only 5K as of today so probably only 20K when it's paid).
(Sold for personal reasons) If you lease and put an extra $150-$200 a month in retirement account, it adds up to the same thing. Unless you are one of those guys/gals that keep a vehicle 10yrs. What I have seen, is most people will always have a payment. Either your truck or a vehicle for the wife/husband/kid. Anyway...I'm in the military and need a dependable vehicle to drive home to see family and need a truck to haul camper and horses. Thought about an explorer/expedition and older truck, but wife likes her older SUV (06), so we got the newer truck.
In five years, trucks will be getting 30 mpg they say and everyone here will buy a new truck, except for the hardcore fiscal responsible ones, and we will have this debate again. What if gas jumps to $12 a gallon? Then 15mpg avg isn't going to cut it. Heck not much will. I will ride my horse to work.
We could play this game back and forth all day. Buy, Lease, MPG, Gas Prices, 2012 haha. Buy the truck you are happy with. You can afford. Family first guys/gals. And for a price you think is worth it.
Thanks for listening.
I did ALMOST the same thing. Traded in a 2012 F150 XLT (too shaky of a ride, clunked, squeeky leafs).....
I walked away with a 2012 MKZ on a 4 year lease, and 4,500 in my pocket. (truck was paid for except for $359).
Big transition, I know...truck to car.

My view on leasing is that it works great if you want a new ride every 2-3 years, and you don't drive more than average.
But on topic, it is possible to lease a vehicle with nothing down, but your first months payment.
A friend of mine just traded in his 2010 Lariat for a 2011 fx4. He owned his previous one, and leased the current. He walked out of the dealership with a nicer 1 year newer truck, with more options, a cheaper payment, and a $6,000 check (equity from previous truck). Sometimes leasing is better for a certain situation you may be in.

[QUOTE=frunko1;932432]...can't you buy something cheaper or used? Not owning the car at the end of the lease and not having any built up capital is a terrible idea.
This is true. A lease is like throwing money away. You also will have a limited allowed of miles per year. When you return the lease if miles are over you have to pay a certain amount. Also, if something is scratch or slightly damaged you will have to pay. Sometimes you will have to pay for a detail clean when returning it.
My opinion is leasing is for people with money. That can afford a car payment forever. Every three years they get a new one with a new lease payment. This is all just my opinion. I would buy a slightly used truck with low mileage, like under 25000. You would be surprised how much cheaper you could get one.
