Dad is a retired USW Union Millwright & grand pap was s Union Miner.
So our family has come from three generations of Union. I know many people are still against Unions, but if it weren't for Unions, we wouldn't have our weekends, paid holidays, 40hr work week, not alone benefits..... Unions Built America. And men in denim built America & the damn suits just keep trying to tear it down.

And hence the reason for my reply. It really bothers me when Skilled Labor furthers the stereo type that we can't possibly know anything about anything outside of our job.

No offense was meant, and I'm proud of my blue collar heritage. We need to make sure we protect though.

Totally agreed & no offense taken.
Your reply is justified. It was just my way of saying that I have more knowledge in welding tubes in a boiler at a powerplant, versus a Line level signal & a LFE signal from our speaker wires.... and not ashamed to admit it.
It's all good.

Default very happy with the outcome!

First off, it's a pretty simple install. I just done the subwoofer upgrade and love the outcome. I was very skeptical if it was going to be something I would enjoy. For those of you that are skeptical as well, it's very much worth the swap. I'm 25, and always had a system in previous trucks. And by system, I mean something you could hear coming from a ways away. Like I said, It hits pretty good.

LFE - Low Frequency Effects
It's a signal specifically for the sub.

From what I could find via Crutchfield, the sub does indeed use a line level input (speaker line). I'm guessing the Sony uses a LFE signal and thus the reason we can't just tap into the original sub wiring.

Installed mine this evening. My first time installing anything beyond simple speaker hookups and it took me about an hour and a half (grommet was a PITA). Very happy with the outcome as it thumps 10X better than the underpowered factory sub.

Just wanted to say thank you for the write up! I just installed the sub in my truck and it is quite the upgrade from the Sony! My only wish would be for a gain control on it. It hits pretty hard! Maybe need to upgrade my other speakers to get it up to par with my outgoing Ram/Alpine stock system. I'll keep playing with the adjustments and get it dialed in. Happy with this sub upgrade though! Thanks
