We lost one of our keys to our 2013 F-150. I found one on ebay for less than 20 bucks. Spoke to our locksmith and he say's no problem. If you get it, bring it in and we will cut and program it. He is also telling me that he thinks it will only start the truck, not sure if the remote will work to lock / unlock doors. I'm thinking he is just cloning the key. I would like the key-remote to also lock / unlock the doors. Any thoughts or suggestions.

I haven't bought it yet. For the record I've bought a few off ebay and had no issues (I did however have the two original keys to copy from). My guess is when you clone the chip in the key, only the ability to start the truck is transferred. Thanks for your reply.

 

You might be able to program the fob part if it's functional, the problem however is you would not be able to self program any more keys. To do so requires special equipment to erase all keys in the trucks memory and start new. That goes for a new Ford key as well.

I would double check that he has the software to program the key. Especially since you only have one key. It is always a good idea to have a couple of the plain chipped keys that are cut and programmed laying around in case it happens again. They are cheap and would allow you to program the keys yourself since two are needed.

 

Yes, that is a downfall of cloning. Evidently they both are read as the same key.

He says he has done a couple of other 2013's. We did have an extra key made when we got the truck. My son lost one a while back and we lost another during a recent move. I agree, all my other vehicle have at least 3 keys and my 2002 F-150 has 4.
