Key Programmer

Have things changed? On my 2010 as long as I had both keys from factory you can program in the truck. The directions are in the manual. I've done it in the past when I cut keys at HD.

I am referring to a "Key Programmer" device
I bought a 2013 Lariat and it came with one key. I bought two blanks. Dealership or locksmiths want $100 or more to program with no guarantees. I thought I could buy a programmer for $130 and do it myself after getting the blanks cut at Home depot. Looking here to see if anyone has tried this.
I see this programmer, online, [www dot xcardiag dot com/ ] but no mention in the threads.

Maybe I just need to bite the bullet, try it and write a new thread.

If it will start the truck then it is enough to program the 3rd key. It runs off the chip in the key, not the keyfob part.

If it's a cheap, Chinese made key, you have to program the chip separate from the fob, unlike the good quality keys where the fob gets automatically programmed.
You should be able to program the fob by the old school cycle a good key in the ignition 8 times, and hit a button on all your keys.

The keys with fobs even from the dealer have to be programmed separately. You can have the key start the vehicle but not unlock the door with the buttons on the fob part of the key and vice versa, just because the fob is now the keyhead don't make it automatically program.
You must have two programmed keys to program PATS to see a 3rd new key to start the vehicle, the ignition cycle to enter programming for the fobs is completely different.
With only one key the dealer or someone with IDS has to program all the keys at the same time for them to work with PATS to start the vehicle.
