Default Kayaks- F150 roof racks???

We just purchsed a new short bed crew cab (Platinum). We plan to put bikes in the bed but aren't sure how to transport our 2 kayaks (11 footers).

Does anyone use racks to carry their kayak/canoes/etc?

Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen a purpose built kayak rack for the roof. The down side is the aftermarket hasn't yet caught up to the new F150. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe you could get one of the cargo racks that would normally fit on top of an SUV and modify it to work on your truck. I believe with most of the cargo racks there is usually an option for cycling or kayak hardware. If you do find something please post as I would also be interested in it. Also I'll keep my eye out for something. Good luck.

The BakRak or water sport carrier might provide a solution for you here is a link http://www.bakfliptonneaucovers4pick...k-Cargo-System

I noticed these when I was looking at the site for a cover for my box, I dont know if this is what you are looking for but thought it might help.

There is a thing that goes in to your trailer hitch and sticks out behind the truck so you can carry longer things.

This may not be the best one but you can get the idea

That might get the job done with some slight modification to keep everything from getting messed up.

I had a rack that I made for my '05 F-150 that I made out of angle iron and used 3/4 inch galvanized pipe for the top rail. I used "C" clamps to hold the racks to the bed rail of the truck. It worked great. I'll see if I can find some pics tomorrow and post them for you.

I use this Thule 422XT sportster for the 16' canoe here. Its height adjustable and I got it at orsracksdirect.com. I live in VT so I got it in person at the warehouse. Lariat 4X4 5.5' bed.

Hi Healthi,

One of the better systems I have seen at some of my adventure races has been from Sportraxx by Simpson. They are great quality and can fit up to four bikes and 2 kayaks, PLUS all your additional gear. The owner Jerry is a cool guy, too. Check it out at www.sportraxx.com

Hope this helps.

Do you think it would be possible to install that if you have a toolbox?
