Default K&N Cold Air Intake installed 5.0

Just finished installing a K&N Cold Air Intake in my truck. Read a few posts about CAI in this forum with mixed reviews.
I have a Magnaflow catback system installed as well.
Installation took me about an hour and a half.
Honestly, this CAI makes my exhaust sound wayyyy better. The engine roars to life on heavy acceleration. Deep growling sound. I'm sure I have a few extra horses and torques as my truck accelerates likes it's going downhill now.
Really impressed.
For the nay-sayers, the CAI made a huge difference in my trucks' sound and performance.
That is all.

I was looking into the CAI as I had read they can help improve your MPG. Another member showed me some reports where Ford has actually designed the OEM CAI to be just as good as the aftermarket ones when it comes to the MPG so I didn't mess with it. I wouldn't mind the better sounding engine but it wasn't worth the $200+ as I wasn't worried about the extra HP and torque that comes with it. I may be 32 but but Im still a kid at heart who loves the sound of my pipes as it is so I give it a bit extra gas once and awhile coming off the line or going through tunnels/overpasses. Give me more sound and I can prob watch my gas needle move from one side of the gauge to the other! lol I will say I AM NOT against the CAI though, especially if its doing what you want it to do! Congrats on the mod! pics?

I forget the model # but it's the one with the plastic tube and not metal. Those reports about the stock intake being designed like a CAI is BS. The difference in my truck is night and day from the long drive I took today. Driving harder and my mpg hadn't change (so far).

No offense, but from what I see is all you gained was a k&n filter, and loss of the lid from the air box which will wind up sucking in stagnent engine bay hot air at idle n such!!!

You should look into getting a pre filter for that k&n if you travel a lot of dusty roads.

I had this exact kit and switched back to stock with just a K&N drop in with the covered box. Both performed the same IMO and gas mileage was the same IMO. Loooottsss more engine noise though. Sounded like a race car with magnaflow exhaust and the CAI

The hood seals the air filter box with this set up. That's why there's a rubber gasket on the top the box.
