"Just Right" Door Detent: Possible Mod

Old news but i just happened across this thread again so here's my experience
april 2013 I ordered for 2012 f150.
It definitely helped but the door would still open all the way with little resistance at the second detent . If I open the door to the first detent and let it go from there ,its best to still hold the door because its a good chance that it will go right past the second stop
Then by october the black rubber boot started degrading. I sent a message through your website with no reply.
Then again I tried contact in February ,,,no reply . Then in july or august I asked about it on this thread,no reply.

What door wouldn't swing past it's detent with a little nudge.

Eh, the rubber boot is a beauty piece. Mine were shot in my stock ones the went on the new ones. No issues.
This is true for every door on 150s, what did you expect it to do, stop on its own at every detent? These doors are heavy and no detent would stop them from swinging open, even on every car I've owned, no detent has stopped my doors swinging.
The detent is designed as such that once a door is manually placed in that position it will stay there unless acted upon by an outside force.

Door Check Assembly: Rubber Boot
fcancer:
I apologize for missing your original note (multiple times!). Really sorry.
As others have said the rubber boot on the door check assembly arm deteriorates quickly. That's part of why we start out with new door checks.
I've tried to remove the rubber boots a number of times to see if they could be reused, but trying to stretch them over the end of riveted-on pivot they inevitably tear.

Even after having them for a year now, I'm still grateful to Northlight, I would say... at least once a day still.
Maybe being aggravated with 3 trucks for nine years, is gonna take some time.

Got mine for Christmas and did the install today. Like everyone else, the driver's side was far easier than the passenger side. One thing to keep in mind for people in cold climates: the plugs are a bit more difficult to get out when it is cold out (-15). That being said, my biggest hang-up was getting the plug out on the passenger side. I spent about a half-hour trying to get it out without success until I came inside, had a beer, and then re-read more of the comments. Make sure that you are trying to pull out the UPPER, and NOT the lower plug. Once I figured that out I did the same as most here and just half-pulled out the upper passenger side plug I got it installed without issue.
Love the way they work, and it should save me some grief with these doors going forward. Thanks Northlight!

I now have them installed on ALL 4 doors and am real happy, glad they finally came out with the rear door detents and it does make a difference.
Thanks Northlight labs!
