I ordered a new Leer 100XR topper for my 13 FX4. I think they look nice and should hold up well. Any input or reviews of this topper appreciated

After having a SnugTop on a Ranger, I thought I'd like a new Leer on my new Ranger (100XQ or something... the best one they make). Leer customer service sucks. 3rd brake light leaked like there was nothing filling the hole. Leer ended up buying me a new top. Same problems. Lousy fit. Lift gate (glass) had a number of seals replaced, and it still leaked. Carpet headliner wasn't glued well enough to allow anything to be stuck to the sides w/Velcro. Window frame screws had to be put back in now and then (they just fell out). LED cabin light was dismally dim. Slide window at the front was a real bear to open (like it was stuck on something), and it rattled!

The place I bought it is owned by a friend of mine (Leer dealer). He just couldn't believe all the issues. He understands why...

I'm happy with my new SnugTop now. It's wonderful, by comparison.

Sorry, but you asked...

I appreciate your honesty. I've looked at a lot of different ones in last few weeks. They were all very similar. Your the first one I've talked to that had negative feedback

Mine is a Leer 700 Tonneau cover and I love it. The fit on the truck is perfect and I have not had any issues. I just waxed it this past weekend for the first time after a little over 3 months of ownership. The color is spot on with my truck. When the guys put it on using a fork lift, I reminded them that if they hit my truck, they are buying it. I know it is different but figured I'd provide some input anyways.

Default I love my leer!

I have had Snug Tops on my F250 Super duty's since 1999. On my 2011 F150 I bought a Leer XL100 and I love it. It fits great and looks killer. They both will leak if you go through a car wash with blow driers and the Leer possibly a little more due to window design. The frameless windows look great but are not a great design and will leak in any cap. In the rain it is 99% dry. The XR is supposed to have better windows and provide more ventilation though.

The Snugtops are not as strong structurally in my opinion if you intend on putting a safari or cargo basket on the rooftop for additional cargo & Leer does a far better job matching paint.

I have bed rug and LED lights installed also as we use it for duck hunting and fishing a lot and the smaller bed can be challenging to fit stuff in.

For the older Snug Tops, I agree. I had one for 11 years on a '94 Ranger, but I never loaded anything on top. The Leer I bought for my new Ranger ('06) came with the Thule rack installed at the factory, and had a 100# limit (according to Leer).

The Snug Top I just bought for the '13 F150 claims a 1" thick honeycomb roof, and has the strongest (expected) roof load in the industry. I did not get a roof rack for it though. On the inside, you can see the outline of the added thickness of the roof, and it is heads-and-shoulders above my ex-Leer in strength, and also in water-tightness, and just good old fashioned "fit and finish". As far as paint matching, Leer and Snug Top are about on-par; that means they're both a little "off" (being an artist, I can see minute variances in colors). But do bear in mind, that even though they both (all?) use OEM paint codes, the 'color lots' are going to vary a bit no matter what you or anyone else does.

Be happy with what ya got...

I had a ARE cap for two days and now I have a Leer. Originally saw an ARE on a buddies GMC 2500 and liked it, so went to the same dealer. After I got mine home I noticed scratches in the side glass on both sides, paint flakes off the roof, and the front window was not flipping down correctly. The dealer even agreed that the paint did not match the truck, its was several shades lighter. Talked to the dealer and expressed my obvious frustration after spending $1,600. Dealer called ARE and they told him that they could never make me happy and that the dealer needed to give me a full refund and tell me to go buy someone else's product. ARE rep told me "You will be nothing but a problem customer". I attached a few photos. Now have a Leer 100XQ, styling is much nicer, cleaner fit. Oh and the paint matched and it was in perfect condition on delivery.
