This is the 4.6 Ltr trademark sound going back quite a while, at least a few years anyways. This is normal. I used to own a 2006 Grand Marquis and I also used to own a 2010 Ford F-150 4.6 ltr 3 valve--sounded exactly the same as my Grand Marquis engine (when at an idle--different sound under throttle). Also all the Ford Crown Vics out there have the exact same sound coming from their 4.6 ltrs. As a matter of fact I was in Denver a couple of weeks ago unloading by bags and such to go into the hotel I was staying at, and while I was doing this I heard this sound and went--has to be a Crown Vic-turned around and sure enough it was Crown Vic a taxi driving by. These engines just sound like this. Even though the 4.6 ltrs in the panthers are 2v---they still had the same sound at idle or just above as the 4.63v in the F-150s. I now have an Ecoboost and love it---but I will say this......(I have said it in other threads) I love the 4.6 ltr engine. Great engine with great power and great mileage. Very reliable too. You should be just fine with yours!
