Unhappy HVAC problems

Hey everyone, 2011 Lariat dual zone climate, I need some help on two items;

First - Blend Door Actuator Motors - I had the typical clicking from the dash that would go away after a while or with a change in temperature. Replaced the blend door actuator behind my radio/nav screen and all was fine for about two weeks. Now the clicking is back with a vengeance! Same clicking noise, except it is constantly clicking, starts as soon as I turn the key, even with the climate system completely off, and it doesn’t stop, regardless of what settings I change, temp/speed/mode. Makes me want to fix it with a hand grenade! What gives? Should I just replace all the actuators?

Second - Fan Motor Resister - again had the typical problem of the fan only running on high, so I replaced the resistor and it seems to work, except that on the top 2 speeds of the 7, it only blows for a few seconds before cutting off, the takes about a minute before it blows again, and then cuts off. Speeds 1 through 5 work fine. Should I replace with a FoMoCo original part instead of the Advanced Auto Parts special? I also replaced the actual blower motor too.

Any and all all advice is appreciated, thanks for your time!

I just had the same issue with a Standard brand blower resistor (O'reily part). Wouldn't work on the two highest speeds and shut off after a few seconds and repeated that cycle. Went with Ford/motorcraft brand and all is well in the world.

I swear, everytime I try to go away from motorcraft it causes other issues. I tried to not use (due to availability) a motorcraft 4x4 hub actuator valve and had weird issues with the non-motorcraft branded ones.

Did you replace actuators based on just noise, or based on the doors not operating? And are the doors operating now?

Jdunk, thanks for that - Amazon got the motocraft part today, it goes in tomorrow.

Spiky, I replaced the one actuator based on noise, since the noise has come back non-stop now I’ve also noticed the doors don’t seem to work, no defrost or foot blow

Well, the one right behind the radio is the passenger temp actuator. The foot/face/defrost actuator is down on the floor. I forget which side. If that was always the bad one, it probably just got worse.

Hey everyone, just wanted to follow up and post that all my HVAC problems have been resolved!

Lesson Learned: use the dang Motorcraft parts the first time! The bad motor actuator was the one i had replaced with the Dorman brand actuator from Auto zone.

Its been two weeks now of some very hot temps and I am really glad that my A/C blows on the highest fan setting again, and that the darn clicking sound is gone from behind the dash! As always thanks for the help and reassurance.
