Default How To: Paint Tail-lights

Couple of months ago i asked if it was possible to open them and paint them and the answer i received was no from several people. Well here it is, proving y'all wrong.

Process:
1. Remove lights from truck

2. Draw a line where cutting will be (closest to the edge but about 1/4 inch from edge)

3. Remove the 3 9/16 screws that are there
4. Use a dremel or rockwell or whatever oscillating tool you have in hand
5. Cut it up where you did your line

6. Open it up and remove the bezel

7. Remove the reflectors with a flat head (make sure not to break a tip because then your screwed)

8. Tape up the brake light buckets
9. Shoot primer then paint
10. Let dry
11. Once fully dry use a compressor and a air gun to remove all debris from reflectors and housing
12. Put reflectors back into bezel

13. Slowly and steadily put the bezel back into the housing

14. Put the cover piece on and install the 3 screws back
15. Throw some RTV silicone on the cut and smooth it out and let it dry

16. Now you have a set of raptor/harley taillights

and a picture of the other 2 sets of lights i was doing at the same time

I always thought the chrome bezel was blacked out and the red reflectors were tinted from the factory as well. Apparently not. Looks good!

Nice work. Do you have any pics of what exactly you painted, vs what areas you left reflective chrome inside the housing?

Think you can paint all of it a high gloss black and it will still be reflective enough for the brake lights to be seen?
