How do I install shims?
I have a '09 supercrew 2wd with a belltech 2" lowering shackle. I have not looked into installing the shims yet, but plan on doing it this weekend. Can someone tell me how to install them along with any torque specifications. Thanks
1. Support frame of truck high enough with jackstands that you can lower the differential about 4-6" without wheels on truck of course.
2. Unbolt both lower shock mounts.
3. Lower differential down as low as it will let you to release as much pressure on the leaf packs as possible.
4. Start on one side and loosen all four U-bolt nuts. You don't have to remove them completely. Then lower differential even further to separate axle tube from spring pack.
5. Line up shim with two tabs in spring perch with fat part of shim facing REAR of truck.
6. Do everything in reverse to fasten it all back up and repeat for other side.
7. I torqued everything down with a 2 foot breaker bar as tight as I could. I don't know what the torque specs on the U-bolts are, but gradually tighten each one so not to make it lopsided as you tighten.
Hope that helps.
