Default How bad are the scorpions?

Just picked up my new truck, FINALLY! Man this week just seemed to drag by. I am super impressed with the updates in this truck and am loving the tow mirrors, the puddle lamps are so smart!

However to my question, I drove through some ugly snow on the way home an the truck didn't slip or trigger traction control at all, so why all the bad reports on these scorpions. I have already contacted a local tire shop and they were more then happy to trade the scorps for some cooper AT3's buy now I am wonder if its really worth the bother. I original thought about going up an inch (no lift) in outter diameter too, if I do go with the at3's what size would you recommend for a no level truck? I tow a lot in the summer and nothing is more ugly then a truck with the nose in the air. Just my feelings on it.

Went through 3 on warranty and slid all over the place. Not to mention mine howled on the road. Hated them! But if you like them that's all that matters..no sense replacing them if you're fine with them.

I found them to be good the first 15k miles. then acceptable until about 40k. Scary as hell the next 5k. Getting michelin LTX MS2 this weekend. Of course, I'm in texas, and only travel into snow a week or two a year.

Me too. They were fine to begin with but once I put some miles on them they were downright scary. One warranty issue with them was sidewall cracking, the second was shoulder wear and the third was tread separation. The 2's have been much more satisfying. Better ride, better traction, more road feel, just better.

I find them fine for summer driving, towing etc... In winter I run a set of Blizzaks. There is no comparison in winter. I got caught in a snow storm before I had a chance to put my winters on and they were terrible in comparison. I wouldnt run them in winter weather if it can be avoided.

I had a set of blizzaks and they were awesome, but not that much better than my MS2's TBH.

I am thinking the MS2's are likely my Scorpion replacements but I will still run the Blizzaks in the winter. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I've got good snows and rims too. Around here you won't get far on all seasons. I was thinking to keep the scorps for summer, but I was worried they'd suck on some of the boat ramps I go to. That's why I was thinking an AT tired might serve me better. I figured I should trade them in while they still have some value as opposed to wearing them down 30 or 40% and realizing they are crap and having to pay full pop for new tires.

If you have 4x4 you'll be fine. Even in snow situations my truck was unstoppable in 4wd. It just sucked in 2wd Or on anything icy with the scorps.

Contrary to popular belief, they are just fine IMO. I have had no problems from them whatsoever in 13k miles so far. Do just fine in rain and ice and have had no trouble in the 19" of snow we just got. Most people just needed an excuse and further justification to throw them out for other tires now a craphole-garbage tire are the cooper zeons my brother put on his 08 after he finally 'justified' the scorpions where just no good... Barely lasted 20k mostly highway miles with proper inflation and rotation.
