Hope I'm not in for trouble
So I left the house this afternoon to pick up the kids from my mother's house. I get about 6 miles down the road, and all is good. I'm on the highway, ac is on, drinking some sweet tea, country music on the radio, and I'm generally enjoying life. All of a sudden I hear a hellacious squealing sound. I let off the gas and can still hear it, so I limp it in to a gas station. All the gauges show normal values. By the time I get stopped, the noise is gone and hasn't come back in 20 plus miles of driving. It sounded like the belt squealing, but the ac works, belts look good, and the tensioners are...tensioning. Water pump nor any pulleys seem to have any play. So I don't know what to do other than hope it was some random occurrence and maybe it won't happen again. Hope I'm not in for some bs problem. Anybody ever heard the belts start squealing like hell out of nowhere? I don't mean a little chirping in humid weather. Sounded like a belt was going to come off.

Keepin' the lights on!
Two piece drive shaft? If so, I'd guess the carrier bearing.

I scrambled to the top of the precipice where Jane was waiting.
"That was fun," I said.
"You bet it was," said Jane. "Let's climb higher."
"No," I said. "I think we should be heading back now."
"We have time," Jane insisted.
I said we didn't, and Jane said we did.
I said we didn't, and Jane said we did.
I said we didn't, and Jane said we did.

I said we didn't, and Jane said we did.
I said we didn't, and Jane said we did.
We argued back and forth like that for about 20 minutes, then finally decided to head back.
I didn't say it was an interesting story.

Five-0 Ret.
OP, no telling what it could have been. One of those things that you hope for the best, and drive on if everything is fine. Good luck.
I do have a story about this old gal I used to date, and how she would squeal in my old truck sometimes, but I digress.....

Just as The Machinist pointed out. It was more than likely a little rock. I work on a site with gravel roads, it happens to me quite often. Hope that is all it was for your trucks sake good luck. Don't stress about it too much
