Default Homemade center console

I pretty much decided the jumpseat was useless as a seat and even less useful as a place to stow things, so I looked into getting the factory console. I didn't want to spend too much money, and therefore was outbid on a couple times on ebay.
I had a three day weekend, and decided to make the center console myself. I figured if I end up hating it, I'll just throw it away.

Here are pictures of the process.
Sorry the pictures disappeared, so I made a quick video:

bolted boards in place of seat.

added bottom, back and front to lock in the shape before removing it to finish.

removed and added in compartment splitter.

drilled holes for cup holders for front passengers

cut main compartment and rear compartment

added inner sliding tray for pens, etc.

rear folddown cup holders

covered base in black vinyl.

and the top in brown vinyl.

finished except for 2nd cup holder which I'll pick up tomorrow.

I'm pleased with the way it turned out, and have lots of wood and vinyl left over, so I will probably change what I end up now liking about it.

Oh, and I sprayed the front cup holder wood with plastidip, so now I'm in the plastidip club!!

Mike

Nice job! Center console's are like dinosaurs here... can't find a truck with them other than a Platinum

I'm curious to know if you considered making it to go right up towards the dash? Or if leaving that space open was done by design for other uses?

Well both my FX4's have/had a center console... and they sure aren't platinums... i am pretty sure other models come with them too..
