Holy Rough Batman!
Chalk another one up in the rides great column. I thought my old '09 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland rode great. My FX4 blows the Jeep out of the water in almost every category (except for maybe the cheap steel the doors are made out of).
I do find my 2012 FX4 rides slightly more rough than my 2011 XLT did, but I think its just the tires being LT's compared to the XLT with 17 inch P-Rated. Either way, both trucks are very smooth, and much better than my 08 XLT I had.
When I test drove trucks before deciding on the Ford, I found the GMC I drove rode the softest. That said, it also had the lowest payload of all three I drove. There were other payloads available, but then the cost (already greater than Ford) would have been exponentially higher. The Ford has a nice firm ride, yet comfortable. I don't have the highest payload package, but close. I doubt it will soften up, because that's a sign of weakening. I also find the Ford handles better due to the firmer suspension, and the steering more direct. It felt like the faster I drove in the GMC, the more vague the steering became.
I was actually surprised by how rough mine is, kind of chalked it up to the max tow package with basically the same towing capacity as my Dad's 3/4 ton 6.2 super duty(believe mine is like 500 lbs less).
Weird you guys think its rough. Aside from ram with its ultra smooth coil suspension, the F150 is extremely smooth. The ride is nicer than my girlfriend's 2009 escape. Doesn't feel like it has a solid rear axle.
