Default HID headlights won't turn on when in drive

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question concerning aftermarket HID headlights for a 2013 F150. I sold the headlights to my buddy, he has been having issues with only one bulb coming on. There is also an issue when the truck is in drive the headlights won't turn on at all. Either manual or automatic. Has anyone experienced these issues. Thank you for you time

Howdy.

Not much to go on here - more info helps us to help y'all...posting pics of stuff helps too ...

Which aftermarket kit did you sell him? You Did state 'aftermarket, right?

If it's a cheap generic chinglish POS PnP kit, best bet is to simply toss it into the circular file and buy one with some quality - the time you'll waste trying to troubleshoot this over the webz (sounds like you lack some basic troubleshooting skills) is not worth it.

At any rate:

Get a DVM and learn to use it.

Inspect / clean grounds - reassess
using DVM, check fer voltage at all relevant points - reassess
inspect all wiring fer connectivity / corrosion - reassess
Swap bulbs side-side - reassess.
Swap ballasts side-side - reassess.
Change the relay harness - reassess

Other:
- DRL involvement?
- BCM involvement? It's a 2013 after all - circuit loads (or lack thereof) could be a factor
- Do the original halogens both work?
- Bench-testing the entire system before installation is always a good thing to do

Good luck
MGD

PS:

Against my better judgement, but, here's a good PnP kit:

Hello MGD
I apologize for lack of information and I thank you for the portion of your response that includes pertinent information, I would suggest that next time you leave out the unnecessary comments. You may find it makes you feel like more of a man when you can insult people via the Internet but I ensure you it does not actually make you one. That being said, my troubleshooting skills are intact. All connections were check and rechecked. Replaced the ballasts. The biggest issue we are having is when you are in park the headlights generally turn on just fine. But when you have the switch off, put the truck in gear, then turn the headlights on only the daytime running lamps come on. I understand you may want me to run a bunch of tests prior to approaching this forum and wasting everyone's time with my questions, however, it's my understanding a forum is a place where people can come and share experiences. I only asked if someone has experienced this before. And if so what did they find. Thank you again for your pertinent information. P.S. I didn't find pictures necessary since I figured you can probably imagine in your mind what a truck looks like without headlights turned on.

You gave us zero info other than aftermarket so his comment was perfectly well.
