Default Help required : heated rear window

Hey folks,

We have a 2011 Raptor SC, but I'm posting here instead of the dedicated Raptor section since it's not a Raptor-only issue.

Bear in mind : I do NOT have access to dealer support or warranty : Ford Europe does NOT want to know about trucks.

So, the rear window defroster is dead. I push the button and the LED does not light up. The fuse is OK.

My money is on the 'rear window closed' sensor. So I need to check that. Does this require taking the back seat out and removing the rear cover ?

Additionally, does anyone have an electrical schematic so I can hunt for the fault ?

Any help would be greatly appreciateded as I am on my own here and winter is a coming.

Thanks,

Pete

one thing to check if you have the power slide window is to make sure it is fully closed. The defrost will not activate unless the window is fully closed! here is a chart that may help. let me know if you need anything else I may be able to help with.

Thanks man, that'll get me started. Yes, I have the power rear, which I suspect is the culprit.

Problem is, I can't 'see' the sensor, which makes me suspect I have to take out the rear seats and take off the rear panel.

Where is this 'heater relay' located ? Can't find it in the fusebox (I don't have the number).

Peter

I am not sure as I haven't had to take a look at it but I would assume the contact to send (fully closed) may be the problem. I would assume it will be a simple contact switch you will see with the panel off. It may have got some moisture or dirt in it?? Good luck!

Wish it were at simple as a contact switch. I had this problem two weeks ago on my 2012 FX4 with power rear slider. I took it to my dealer who I find to be very knowledgeable. They did their diagnostic and told me it was the slider contact and that the only fix was to replace the entire window. Next day I brought it back to have a new window installed. They tell me there is no switch that can be replaced, that it is built into the window assembly. I am sure if it was as simple as a switch they would not have gone to the trouble or expense of changing out the entire window.
In my research on this problem I found several members on here and elsewhere that had the same result as me, new window. If someone knows otherwise please enlighten us as I am concerned this could happen again outside of warranty. A new window, i am told, is on the order of 1200 bucks. Good luck.

well that explains why the OP couldn't find it!!! As I said I haven't had this issue so I haven't really looked into it! But I agree that this is a terrible at best design issue if you have to replace the window due to a switch. So here is what I would suggest if this happens after warranty........ What I would do is simply splice the wire together as in a switch is probably only supplying a contact between a ground wire to send that back to the BCM. If you splice the two wire going to the switch then you are doing the same thing the switch would do and thus the defrost would work... Of course you would want to make sure the window is closed too!

Yeh same thing here. Defroster button wouldn't work so I took it into the dealer especially since I am almost over 36k and a back glass is on order now.
