Default Help dipping Ford emblem

I tried to dip the front Ford emblem and the hard part was peeling it. I tried using a toothpick, but I went through several as they kept breaking. Crappy low quality toothpicks!

Problem is when I peeled, it would start to grab the dip that is on the blue oval part. Finished product looks rough.

Any tips?

(I did 5 coats)

So you're trying to dip just the chrome, 'Ford', correct? But the oval part already has dip on it?

EDIT: I see what your'e saying.

I would do it again, but rub off the dip on the Ford part with your fingers. Create friction and it will rub right off. That way you won't have to worry about peeling it. You can do it wet or dry.

He dipped the whole thing but peeled the FORD letters so that they would still be chrome.

I had the same issue... I would recommend starting over. Put 3-4 coats on and let it dry. Before peeling anything, trace the letters with a new/sharp razor blade. This will help the separation. I found that a pair of tweezers was the best tool to peel the letters with.

*Also... make sure you clean it really well with some rubbing alcohol before painting it.

I'll give some of those tips a shot. I was worried about using anything metal for fear of scratches.

Cleaning it well is definitely a good start! First coat should be just a light dust (about 75% transparent), then about three nice even coats. I agree the tweezers (if no good toothpicks) work also... The only part I used a razor on was the thin chrome outside ring.

Oh... And let it dry at least 30 minutes before attempting to peel...
