From reading other threads it sounds like trucks 2011+ seemed to need more than the 9 turns noted in the directions. I just installed mine (a Christmas present) for my 2012 FX4 and required about 11.5 turns. It also didn't have a heat shrink piece and is working well.

It took me a lot more than 9 turnsm and i also trashed the thread locker and used red loctite. That baby isn't going anywhere.

How do you get the nutsert to take? The instructions are not very good. I've adjusted it so it sticks out the correct amount. When I put it in the tailgate I held the nut with vise grips and turned the bolt with a hex wrench but the only thing that happened was the bolt went in. What should I be doing since I am definitely not doing it correctly?

Thanks

You don't turn the bolt. You hold the bolt with a hex wrench and turn the nut 10 times.

Thanks. I will give that a try later.

Update. That definitely worked. I had never installed a Nutsert before. Now I will always remember what to do. The tailgate assist works great!!!

Hello Gents, I picked my Sachs EZ-Down Part#SG304900EZ from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts Store this weekend. This must be the newer one with the ball joints on either end. For the nutsert, I couldn't get mine to tighten. It had a washer and bearing assembly on the outside of the nutsert. I removed the washer and bearing assembly, and it finally tightened up. Removed the nut, put some Loctite on the ball joint bolt and it tightened right up. The first time I opened the tailgate, it wasn't as slow opening as the video shows. Did I do something wrong or does every else's tailgate open faster than what the video shows?

I installed my DeeZEE assist today- been starting to it for a few weeks! Problem one: not so major but I could not locate a M5 hex/Allen wrench so to Harbor Freight for new pack. Problem 2: How to j know when 9 turns were done- used white out on the one flat spot. Decided when at Harbor Freight to get ratchet wrenches, so then to Lowes. I got back home, got there outsert in using nine turns and stopped.it didn't move any. I used the gook in the bottle and put that ball joint in, it went in the whole but never did seem to get real tight. It will still turn,. Now to the other end of the cylinder. Ooh boy. the tort wrench didn't work , it kept falling out without a good grip. Tried vide grips tightened on the torx and tapping with a hammer, no good. Tried the vise grips alone and no good. Finally with channel locks tit started to turn. It finally came out, then I put all in place and tightened it up, Seems to work, the tailgate did not hit the ground, and no curse works polluted the air.

You guys should just pull the tailgate access panel and use a nylon lock nut taped to a wrench to secure the ball stud. You can tighten it up nice and secure and it'll never come loose. If you want to take it off, you can easily reverse the process.

I did what Eric M suggested above. Works great! There is also another post called the Raptor mod which has pictures and detailed instructions.

Gave that some thought actually, but decided to follow directions instead.
