Default Help with 2009 IWE system.

So here's where I'm at. Getting a ratcheting sound from my front end that goes away when I engage 4x4...so something with the IWE. I have replaced the solenoid and check valve. I still get the noise. So I checked the vacuum at each end.
My passenger side gets -20lbs and my drivers side was only getting -5lbs. So I replaced the whole tubing assembly with a new one thinking there was a leak somewhere going to the drivers side. I still get the noise and I still only get -5lbs pressure to that actuator. Kind of baffled....you would think both sides should get the same vacuum?
Can anyone with some more knowledge on this than me give me some info...Is the vacuum pressure suppose to be this way?

how are you checking the pressure on the drivers side? disconnecting the IWE and hooking up the gauge to the tubing? you replaced the entire tube from the solenoid? what pressure are you getting at the solenoid? or right after the split? sounds like there is a leak in the tubing somewhere

I just pulled the tubing off the actuator and stuck my gauge on the line. I'm getting -20lbs at the solenoid. I would say leak also but the whole tubing assembly is brand new. Both the old one and the new one gave the exact same pressures at both actuators. The only thing I can come up with is that's the way its suppose to be and there is vacuum lose over the length of the long run. I was hoping someone has tested there's the same way and could tell me. From what I have read the actuators only require -5lbs to function.

both sides are suppose to have the same ...its coming from the same solenoid! ever think of just getting your own tubing from a hardware store and before routing the tubing down to the wheel check the pressure. Or un-route the new tubing out of the engine bay and test while its jsut hanging outside the engine but still hooked to the solenoid....maybe you damaged it installing it ?

Thanks for the replies Timeless. After some playing around and more frustration it struck me that maybe the passenger IWE was actually leaking causing the loss of vacuum on the drivers side. I plugged the passenger line and low and behold the drivers side went to -20lbs. So it looks like the passenger actuator is toast.

When my passenger side started grinding on my Expedition I replaced it only to have the drivers side start grinding a week later. I already replaced solonoid previously. I then replaced the drivers side as well as the check valve assembly (ordered from dealer). Basically replaced the entire system minus the lines didn’t feel like chasing the issues around. No issues since.

Ya I'm gonna do the same. Have a pair of new actuators on the way. So I will have basically rebuilt the whole system...wish I would of started with the actuators
