I went from a 2006 5.4 too a 2009 5.4. I test drove the 2009 and was like holy sh*t when I jumped on it during the test drive. I feel as of though it runs smoother, shifted better, better throttle response and way more power. Just my opinion.

That's how I felt coming from a 2005 to driving a 2010, couldn't believe it was the the same engine.

I have a 2010 5.4 KR and I love the truck. Recently had the tranny re flashed and now it is shifting much better. My only complaint is that sometimes when I get on it, the tranny doesn't shift into passing gear, rather it just accelerates in the same gear. I drove my friends 07 with the 5.4 and I really think the 09 and up is way better. I also think the 5.4 is a better choice than the Eco Boost because the 5.4 is a proven engine and doesn't seem to be having the same problems as the Eco Boost.

Just my .02 Cents

I have the 5.4 and 80,000 + kms and love it.
I have a Lariat, and I love it.

Keep looking for a 5.4 Lariat is what I would do.

You're buying a full size truck. Do not let MPG's be even a remote factor in your purchase. The difference will be negligible and unless you put an ungodly amount of miles on per year something that will never "even out."

If you are asking for opinions I would tell you to go with the EB. I own one and I love it. Tons of power and OK fuel mpgs for a truck. Just drive both and go with what you like best.

I drive 45 minutes one way to my girlfriends house... I average around 25,000 - 30,000 miles a year... That is where I'm looking at mpgs haha
