Default Heat not working. Cold air/AC only... any ideas?

Well my truck has gone 112K miles without having to post a "blank isn't working please help" thread being created.

As I was driving to work at 6:30am on a chilly morning for the first time I turned the temp **** to the middle of the red/ blue... still ice cold (AC on) I then turned it on all the way red/heat... still ice cold. Turned the AC off and only get cool non AC air coming out on every vent setting.

Has anyone here had a problem with their heat not working? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I have the dealer or any shop charge me to diagnose it.

My truck is a 2010 XLT so no auto climate control just your regular old fashioned *****.

Thanks for reading.

Was the car up to operating temp? I know mine in the winter won't get warm until the engines hot. Did you wait or did you expect hot right when you started truck?

Yeah it was up to operating temp. Its garaged and I have a long commute.

Can it be a heater core? Coolant level is full and the truck was just at the dealer for an oil change/rotation. I was told it doesn't need a thing except the transfer case fluid changed on the next visit.

Probably a mixer door...had the same problem on my '97 XLT shortly before trading it in.

This...the mixer or blend door. Not an inexpensive fix either. There is a current thread showing the dash torn apart to fix it.

Thank you for the replies. This is exactly what my service adviser said...followed by $450 to complete the job. That's a hell of a lot more then I was expecting BTW.

You got off cheap. I had my blend door replaced on my '11, shop manual called for 8 hours labor....thank god it was under warranty. the entire dash had to be removed to replace the blend door. And it was like 10F at the time so not something i could really put off doing.

In my 2010, when I turn the heat all the way up and have it blow through the dash vents, only the two passenger side vents blow hot air. The two driver side vents blow much cooler. Would this be the mixer/blend door as well??

At those prices you could save money by driving to Texas to sell the truck and buy a new one! Who needs heat in Texas. :p

I could suggest checking something but I have a 2012 and not sure yours is the same.. IF you take out your center bezel,,,, located behind the radio you will see the actuator. It may not be working! you could put your hand on it and see if you can feel it trying to engage! just turn the heat **** from cold to hot while the truck is running or in the on position! It is held in by two screws and at worst case for now,,, you could unscrew it, see if it turns from on to off and if so you know it is the door. If so,,, you have be able to use a pair of plyers to turn it!! Heck you really can't hurt it since it will have to be replaced at the dealer. If you can get it to move, maybe spray it with a little wd40 and keep trying..... It will take you about a half hour to see, and if you get it to turn you will have heat!
