Default Headunit question

Hi all, got a question I have not been able to find the answer to on Google or YouTube. I just bought a 2013 SuperCrew FX4 and I have been looking at upgrading the headunit to get CarPlay and line outs. Crutchfield is showing that nothing bigger than a standard double DIN +/-7” monitor will fit where the stock 8” display sits, but other websites seem to contradict this. Has anyone here successfully replaced the factory 8” display system with a 9-10” floating display? I am mostly looking at the 9” units from Alpine and Pioneer…TIA

The internal opening will only hold a double din stereo chassis but floating screens usually have the screen attached to a double din sized chassis behind the screen that installs in the dash opening. Sometimes the screens will cover dash buttons or ac vents and maybe that's why Crutchfield says nothing bigger than a 7 inch will fit.

You would have to modify the brackets to mount the (usually) single-DIN body far enough out of the opening to get the floating screen in the right position. Also, there are no aftermarket surrounds for a single-DIN box, so you would have to create something if you wanted the opening to appear closed off. Since there is no specific product set up for this, Crutchfield lists them as not compatible.
Edit: I guess they are all over the place in size. Problem is still mounting and having it look ok.
