Just looking for an update on how this truck is performing: ride, hauling, towing, mpgs.....

I picked up my truck on December 23rd - as of today I only have 596 miles...

Best riding truck I've ever owned, feels like a Cadillac compared to my old 2500HD. Turning radius is fantastic, behaves well enough on the road to the point where I can forget I'm driving a pickup. Visiblity from the tow mirrors is great. I love just about everything about it - there are a few Ford things that I'm not used to, but nothing I won't get used to.

The all important MPG question -> Read this carefully because I'm a little unique here I think...

My trip B has been running since delivery... I've been on the highway less than 10% of the 596 miles. 33.5 hours of run time to go 596 miles, that means I'm averaging only 17 miles an hour! I'm always in town, alot of short 2 mile trips with added idling time (its cold out there!). My overall average is 11.8MPG

Today I took a trip to the A.R.E. dealer to drop off my gas cap door so they can match the paint. It was a 25 mile trip, about 70% highway. I reset the AVG MPG before I left - when I got there it was 18.0MPG. I reset it again for my way back -> I was in heavy highway traffic and prob slowed to 50-60 on the highway part. When I arrived home I it read 19.5MPG. Thats all I can tell you about MPG - but I'm very happy with the results so far.

I've not hauled or towed anything of consequence to this point, so have no feedback there yet.

I appreciate your disclaimers, but it sounds like this truck is not suffering from the extra weight.... For the time being your my test case, however I have been harassing the local dealer about the arrival of two scab hd f150s to get a little seat time in something relatively close to the 157" wb(the scabs are 163"). Walking into a dealer and telling the salesman about his product is a little disconcerting. My wife has seen the pictures of your truck more times than she cares to.

After my initial posts about disliking the tow mirrors, I've had a chance to test drive a S-Crew with them. I got to drive it home to see if it fit my garage with the 6 1/2' bed and large mirrors. By the time I got home I was really hoping it fit because I loved having those mirrors. They really help with backing or maneuvering in tight spaces easy. It did fit in my garage too!

I have 6000 K on my HD SCab with 3.5 eco and max tow 163 " wheelbase. I keep 60 and 55 lbs of air in the 10 ply tires and the truck rides very smooth empty or loaded. I carry a small camper and the truck handles great. The ride is probably firmer than the standard payload trucks with P rated tires but they can't do what my truck can . I bought the truck to use to haul my camper , load an ATV in sometimes , pull my travel trailer when my wife comes along and it fits the bill. On the highway it's very quiet , on the logging roads the suspension absorbs most of the extra bounce the 10 plys may have i am confident the tires will handles any off road sidewall type hazards.

I am curious more about the change in the axle, the 7 lug vs the 6. Both are 9.75 rear ends, but what is the spline count? I believe the 6 lug are 34 spline. I also understand the 7 lug come with 17" steel wheels, which obviously have a higher carrying capacity than an equivalent aluminum.

Since owning my Supercrew I added some supersprings, sumosprings, and LT tires. Rides like a champ and hauls like one too.

I don't have the specs for the newest F-150s, but back in 2009 model year, with 5.4L engines both the 6-lug and 7-lug rear axles have 34 splines. However, the axles with 6-lug hubs were rated 4,000 pounds weight capacity, and the axles with 7-lug hubs were rated 4,800 pounds.

Not obvious at all. For 2009 models the 6-lug steel wheels and the 6-lug aluminum wheels both were rated 2,025 pounds. The 7-lug steel wheels were rated 2,400 pounds. (7-lug aluminum wheels were not available until later.)

For 2012 and maybe a year or so earlier, 7-lug aluminum wheels are standard for XLTs and Lariats with the HD payload pkg, and 7-lug aluminum wheels are optional on XLs that have the HD payload pkg.

I used to work at a big marina. I now am in the union with way better future lol. Anyhow we never went further than five miles with a hydraulic trailer (trailer weighed 14000 pounds) and sometimes up to thirty foot boat. Never really on the highway. Except for taking a salvage to the dump. We had three f250s. 2001,2004,2006. The 2006 had a five speed tranny I think? And a 3v v10 vs the 2v in the older ones was knight and day difference when having twenty thousand pounds or more. The main difference was the lower first gear. All I got to say is all these trucks have the same tranny. Even with thirty thousand pounds on the back of a f250 which we added air ride suspension to take up a lot of sag. We were way above the tow capacity and it handled and drive like a dream and we beat the sh*t out of them trucks. So get the truck you want with 3.73 gear and get a aftermarket rear spring helper or air ride suspension which is the bomb.
