Have you noticed how soft the outside mirror glass is?
I've had three F-150's and on the first, the outside door mirror faces/glass ended up scratched badly just from washing and drying them. As a result, I tried to be more careful on the second ones --- nearly the same result with small noticeable scratches all over the surfaces of my tow mirrors after 35,000 miles.
I've only got a little over 2,000 miles on my 2014, and swore to myself that I was going to be SUPER careful with these tow mirrors................just noticed that the same scratches are beginning to appear!! These micro scratches are not visible at all angles and in all lights, but when you see them, you really see them......Even paper towels and lots of window cleaner seem to scratch them!
Ford.....please tell me that you changed the resistance to scratches on the 2015?

I've yet to notice on mine, but have noticed at work they have become a lot softer, I work as a detailer at 5 big Japanese brand. the mirrors are crazy soft compared to previous years, I started noticing it since 2013

While I haven't noticed or really looked for the scratching problem you're experiencing, my suggestion would be to ditch the paper towels. I know from wearing glasses that paper towels are abrasive and was told to avoid them.
For my truck windows and mirrors, I always use window cleaner and micro-fiber towels.
I know there are glass polishing products out there that may help reduce or eliminate the damage already done.

The drivers has a film for auto dim depending on the truck. Maybe that scratches easily. I just notice how easily they break... I have hit my drivers on my XLT twice past the middle of the mirror to the outside at very slow speed and it breaks away as it should.... and blows up. Yes it's my fault and I take full responsibility for it but I have never had such fragile break away mirrors.
