Thanks for the info! Once again, I love the look of your truck! I went down and ordered the same one yesterday and now have to wait a couple of weeks for it to come in. They didn't mention anything about a liner or light on it so I will call on Monday to find out about that. I'm also going to put in a Bedrug at the same time. I feel like a little kid at Christmas - can't wait!!!! I'll post pics once it is installed.

So what about security? Who has the best locking system and why? I'm looking for something to keep the bed dry and secure. The BAK covers look very easy to get in to.

My dad has the Leer 700 on his Limited. Not usually a fan of that style of Leer but I think it looks awesome on his truck.

I had a BakFlip HD on my FX4 and wouldn't do it again...There's a grocery list of things I have come to not like about it.

I'm looking at the Extang Encore and the Undercover Flex. That's if I go with a folding cover. I would just go with an Undercover Classic but I'd like to be able to open the tailgate without raising the cover. Security is my focus though.

What do you have? Show pics if you have them.

I'm going to look at Undercover Lux tonneau covers this week.

http://undercoverinfo.com/lux.php
If I was going to go with a hard cover again, it would be the undercover.

I can tell you what not to go with it.

My 2004 Titan had a Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit and it was JUNK! The canister took up over a 1' of length and depth in the front, it damaged the tailgate cap, needed holes drilled into the liner so that it could drain into the bed drain holes, and leaked everywhere. Seals didn't hold up and it constantly needed lubrication. Pace Edwards would also not back it up or stand behind it.

Know what, I literally threw $1000 into the garbage. No one wanted even for FREE!

Next one was on my 2010 F150 and it was an Extang Solid Fold cover which is a tri-fold panel cover.

First one was junk and leaked everywhere especially the hinges. The redesigned it and the new one didn't leak, at least where I could easily see it. However it was still junk. Spring clamp broke, seals ripped and twisted from just folding, seals would move and metal wore spots in the plastic bed cap protector (in several spots), and the darn aluminum top dented everywhere. Very cheap and Junk. They tried to keep it light but keeping a hard tonneau light really creates a junk cover.

Also the trifold cover took up 1/3 of the bed since the other panels only folded on to the front 1/3 panel. Of course you had the depth of the bed open just not the top. It worked for most cargo I had but had to remove a few times and that's where the fragile nature of the aluminum is a pain. It's like holding glass as you are afraid to apply any pressure to it as it will ding or dent.

Best hard tonneau I had was the Ford Factory tonneau on my 2008 Sport Trac. It was only 4' long but was a bi-fold cover made out of very heavy duty and hard ABS plastic. It was HEAVY at 70 lbs. For a full size truck, you'd be looking at least 100 - 125 lbs. BUT it was very VERY rugged and could take anything! Unfortunately only Ford made this and I could not find anything like it made by anyone. Now extang makes a new hard cover that's not aluminum but I would have a hard time trusting it. The Ford cover did take up 1/2 of the bed but if you were strong enough to carry the awkward 70 lbs cover while 'folded', it could be removed quickly and easily. The awkwardness of it was what made it a pain to move and carry though.

The Wife and I this round decided a hard tonneau cover is just to limited and not worth the pain and money.

I went with a very simple Extang classic snap cover this time. The seals, while the F150 model, don't line up with the bed wall caps or the bulk head at all so I have to add additional tailgate seals to make it water tight. It's off now to put the new Ford Sportliner Bedrug bedliner in but when on prevously with the lousy Dual liner bedliner, it leaked very little and what water was in the bed was mainly from the aluminum support bars having condensation on them.

I just want a cover to keep the water off of our camping gear and other cargo and it to be completely out of the way when we use the bed. We use the bed a lot so the hard cover didn't make sense. A truck cap/topper with it's angled in side walls, just makes cargo carrying a hassle as well as needing to crawl and put everything in. Plus most Leer an ARE caps are a good 190 lbs, that would deduct off of the usable payload we use for camping gear and our travel trailer tongue weight.

As you, if I were to go with a hard cover, I wouldn't even look at the silly rolling and folding covers as they don't hold up. Go with your gut and get the Under Cover tonneau cover.

Guess I didnt' think about those fiberglass lids people put on. If you plan on using your truck as a truck, those are useless because they are heavy, delicate, and a pain to take off. I would never even entertain the idea of a fiberglass lid. If I had to go that route, it would definitely be a truck cap/topper where you can least have cargo over 22" tall and be able to put a lot more in the bed.

The Undercover while looking similar to a fiberglass lid isn't the same. It very easy to take off and only weighs 50 lbs. It still takes 2 people due to the awkwardness of the large cover. That's why I didn't buy it. If they had factory carry handles built in it (so it can be taken off by 1 person), and a cushioned cover to keep deep scratches out of it, it would be on my truck.

Has anyone tried a rolltop tonneau called retrax? They are made in north dakota i think. Their website is www. Retrax.com. Kinda pricey, but they look like they are quality made. I don't know. So confusing to find a good one!!!

I've been reading reviews all day about the folding covers and they all have their faults, namely fitment issues and leaks. They look great but the functionality I'm wanting just isn't there. Looks like the Undercover Classic one piece unit is in my future, just hate having to unlock and open the cover to lower the tailgate.

I've heard nothing but good about the retrax, I have a soft cover now but my next one is going to be a retrax for sure.
