Guys help with a quick decision
More often than not a person has a gut feeling about how a situation should be handled, despite all the logic and rationale being put forth. Go with your gut, it's usually right. A public opinion poll is the worst possible way you could be making this decision. Nobody knows you like you.
-- I will offer this opinion though. If you decide to keep what you have, I wouldn't throw a bunch of money at it in an attempt to make it something it's not. Save the cash for a trade-up somewhere down the road.

Get what you think is right. Inability to tow what you need to, and just doing it slowly are two different things. I traded my 05 screw with the 4.6l because there was no way it could tow my camper(27 ft with two big slides and a dry weight of 8500lbs). Bought a 2012 eco new in 2012.
I love my eco it tows the camper without a problem. But I am glad that I bought it new with a warranty. My truck has not been problem free. About a year after I bought it a seal on the drive line had to be replaced, the radio went out around the same time, and 2 months ago the timing chain went out. Thank god it was still under power train warranty for the timing chain, its a pretty expensive fix.
The 3.7l is a good motor and pretty problem free. If you want to roll the dice on an eco, find one under warranty or buy an extended warranty. A 6.2l would be an amazing find, its a great motor.

You sir have said the words of a true business man, that's exactly what I've decided to do, not throw money into something i won't be happy with. I will wait till things get better and i am able to afford the truck i want with the options i need. For the time being i'm focusing on my new rental property and re-doing my budget perhaps further down the road i move on from this truck but for now it will have to do vehicles are the worst investments :/. I have bigger priorities at the moment but i value and thank you all for the opinions.
side note for OP, i got a 5.0 spec'd with 3.73 as i knew i was going to get bigger tires ( 275/70/18) so my new ratio is 3.61 give or take, but with ur current or eventually new truck if u plan to do tires get the deepest gears you can 3.73 or 4.10 stock or $$ to regear to keep in the power vs lugging
Life plan: Pay off loan. Live without payments for X years. Save money, pay cash on next vehicle. I've lived without a car payment for 15 years now and paid cash for my used 2011 XTR when it was 2 years old. I don't even make that much money- it's all about being realistic. That FX4 is just a continuation of the situation you are in right now whether it's nicer or not. So take a few years and get on top of things. You'll be happier in the long run this way.
