Got a killer deal on a new rear bumper!
So, as most people who own trucks know, one of the main problem points is the rear bumper, It's almost always the one thing messed up on an otherwise flawless truck. This is especially true with this generation of trucks because the edges of the rear bumper stick out past the fenders and are prone to getting chips and rusting (I bought mine this way). Of course, backing into a light post didn't help matters lol.
So anyways, I was looking around for a new rear bumper, or at least the "wings". The lowest quote I got from body shops just to replace and paint the wings was over $1,200 in my area, and that wasn't happening. So I started looking for a bumper in local (and not so local) salvage yards, and if/when I did find a king ranch bumper it was around $700-$800. Come on, I'm cheap, but I want a new bumper.
Then the other day I was joking with the wife that I ought to just order one of Amazon, after all they have everything now-a-days right?
Seriously though, Amazon has a freaking rear bumper for our generation F-150s. It's the whole bumper, the frame, the wings, and the pad. For $400. Now considering just the wings on Rock Auto are over $400, I was like what the hell, I'll order it. So I threw it in my cart and ordered, and I got an email that said "Leave us a message on Amazon to tell us the paint code so we can paint your bumper appropriately".
Well hot-friggity-dog, they're going to paint it too?
I really expected this thing to be a turd. I expected it to be poorly packaged, and some cheap chinesium imitation bumper, but if they were even going to throw some paint it, well then I get what I paid for, and at least it's a bumper, right?
Hell no, this thing is packaged like a boss, all OEM parts, and actually painted better than I would expect from MAACO.
The whole bumper came painted and assembled (less the actual sensors of course), covered in white lithium powder to prevent scratches during shipping, then wrapped in foam, then wrapped in lots of paper, put into a properly sized box, which itself was wrapped. I mean I've seen mother's put less care into their children's meals.
Seriously, $400 for an entire rear bumper, OEM parts, and painted?
I'm still not sure what happened, but $400 left my bank account and this awesome bumper showed up at my door, so I'm not complaining.

WOW! That’s frickin’ awesome. So all you had to do was wash the powder off, mount it and plug in the sensors? Great find! Gotta love amazon!

Does this one have more metal in the middle than the OEM? I mean, it couldn't have less.

It has a huge metal reinforcement that is part of the frame under the step pad in the center, I have no idea if that is on the one that's on my truck as I haven't had a chance to mount it yet. There's no metal between the "wings" if that's what you are alluding to.

Sorry for the short delay in getting the installed pics up. It was over 105 here in Texas and we had a string of orange/red ozone days, and I ended up having to swap parts out since I forgot the frame for my bumper has the base tow package on it so it took a little longer.
Here she is all installed and buttoned up!
