Default Got Hailed on

Two questions. My 2011 with 24 K miles on it got hailed on last week. Goes in to the insurance adjuster the 24th. It has around 80 dents on it none real deep. Issue is the truck is leaking water and it pours in the passenger side front pillar where the grab handle is. Pouring in water like -- put a bucket under it. It did not do this pre hail storm but there is no damage around the satellite antenna, the windshield or the roof seam. No dents in those areas. It has been raining hard. I suspect I could find it with a hose becasue it isn't just a drip. My concern is the insurance guy will say not their problem and Ford would say not their problem. Ford would be right because it didn't leak pre hail. Second item, damage has been running 4 to 8 grand. I would guess that has to show up on car fax and that would reduce the value of the vehicle. Does insurance cover that type of loss? I have State Farm.

Your insurance should pay for the leak as they cannot prove it's not hail damaged related. You could take your insurance check and your truck and do a trade in for a new one. It'll end up going to auction and won't be your problem anymore.

I know when there is another insurance company involved (ie someone hits you) you can claim value loss on your vehicle...I'm not sure about it when it comes to your own insurance...since they'll probably be more inclined to raise your rate more than what they might already be planning on.

I would mention it to the insurance adjuster. If they deny it, take it to Ford for warranty. If Ford says it is not their problem, they should be able to tell you why, thus, you will have the source to go back to the adjuster.
If the insurance company pays to fix the hail damage, I wouldn't think there would be any diminished value to worry about.
To me, diminished value is from accidents that could be the cause of hidden, unknown problems down the road. Hail damage doesn't fall under that catagory. At least to me, it doesn't.

I've dealt with state farm on a couple of different occasions, neither of which were at fault for me. They were always very respectful and understanding, and were pretty fantastic to work with.

If the leak truly started at the same time that the hail damage, I'm sure they will be willing to cover it. It could be as simple as a damaged seal on the Sirius antenna, or damage to the windshield seal that you can't see.

If they give you any grief about it, I would push them on it first, before jumping though hoops with Ford, trying to get it covered under warranty.

You have insurance for a reason, this is that reason, they should make you whole again.

We had a bad hail storm here on May 12th 2011. It did $4,400 damage to my Nissan Titan, $7,000 damage to my wife Lexus, $34,000 to our house, roof and skylights. We have SF and everything is covered. Didn't fix the Nissan but everything else was repaired. No increase in premiums.

We have a boarding kennel and have Travelers Ins. with a special kennel package with them. $22,000 in damage from the same storm and they have increased my prem. by $101/a quarter. We have a metal roof on the kennel and other then a lot of dents, it's fine. Only replaced the siding that had holes in it.

$67,000+ between the 2 claims.

My wife's Lexus has a clean car fax. The body shop does not report damage, I think it's only when a accident/police report is made.
