Default Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac vs BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2

Having trouble deciding between these two tires. Don't necessarily need the best snow performance since we have a set of Blizzak DM-V1s for winter duty.

By distance, most of the use is on pavement, but most weekends we find ourselves going up gravel or dirt roads in British Columbia. On the coast most roads are gravel, some of it very sharp. Like this:

In the interior the roads are often dirt with stones in the mix. Lots of glacial silt that turns in to "loon ****" when wet.

Our OEM Bridgestone Alenza tires are nearly worn out after only about 35,000km (~22,000miles). Looking back at our use, I think we're lucky to have gone without a flat. Anyway...

Looking for a good all-terrain tire for our use, in size 285/70/17 to be installed on 2012+ Raptor takeoffs. I think I've narrowed it down to the Goodyear Duratrac or the new BFG All-Terrain KO2. I love the looks of the Duratrac but I'm just a bit wary about the noise on the highway.

Thoughts? Advice?

With the terrain your describing, BFG AT's all day. The new KO2 design looks awesome and they are snow rated. Rotate them every 5-7k and you will be very pleased with them.

I have KO2's and love every aspect of them. That is a beautiful place to live.

I can't give you a back to back comparison, but I faced this decision about two weeks ago. I researched a ton online, asked several friends their feedback, and talked to some folks at tire-shops. The people in the tire business, and my buds, sided with the BFGs. Online, it seemed like a 50/50 toss up.

I don't think you can go wrong, but my money went BFG; I'm happy.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the replies. Somehow I love the Duratrac but am reluctant to take the plunge. The KO2 seems like the "safe" choice but I love the looks of the Duratrac. Tough choice

I have a lot of experience with the Duratrac, as well as the BFG. Both are excellent tires. Both are snow rated, both are quiet on the highway. In my opinion, the BFG is more modern looking. The Duratrac will likely last longer. Most of my customers with them get about 120,000km out of a set. The BFG's I see go about 80,000.

This is a typical BC interior road for us. When raining/wet these are slick! We don't really encounter mud holes or do any crazy mud bogging

Thank you for your post. Before the F150 I had a Focus SVT and drove it like I stole it every day. The street tires never lasted too long. The track tires lasted even less. The thought of 120,000km from one set of tires seems like crazy talk!

I have a set of duratracs. They have 110,000km on them now and have over 1/2 tread left. I'm guessing that 1/2 of those km are gravel roads. The best tire I've had.

I find the only place they are iffy is on semi thawed clay. But then any tire will slide around. However, the duratracs clean out very nice compared to the BFG's.
