Default Goodbye Ecoboost.....

hello used Duramax.

I put on enough miles, many of them towing. The Ecoboost (maybe just mine was a dud) was breaking me with its terrible fuel economy.

Its been replaced with a super clean low mile 2006 (pre-emission) Chev Duramax. I have had a few of them over the years, and the diesel will better suit my needs.

The negative - my poor experience with the Ecoboost.

The positive - supply vs demand for the 3.5L Ecoboost right now has a shortage at Ford dealerships, and as a result I was able to get top dollar out of my 6 month old one in a private sale. Needless to say, I didn't lose much if anything, and the used Chev Duramax cost me 1/2 of what the Ford sold for!

Good for you, I'm gonna hang on to mine a few more years and hope that ford offers something different. I will never go back an EcoBoost anything if I have my choice (including swapping back to a GMC/Chevy) For now, I am grateful I could get out of my old G8 and look forward to using the 4x4 this winter up here. Also grateful that I can afford a good looking truck, when many others can't.

With that said, I hope I start seeing the sunshine and lollipops out of this damn ecoNOTHING!! Back to 14.6 on avg. AGAIN!! That short bout of 17.8 must have been a teaser FLUKE!!

Have fun in your chevy. My Eco could get 5 gallon/mile, and I still wouldnt even consider a chevy. Dodge, maybe.

Anyone that expects the ecoboost to provide diesel like fuel economy while towing is sure to be disappointed. When towing it swigs fuel like a gas V8. What do you think the turbo does? It allows more fuel to be pumped in the cylinder! Nothing tows as thriftly as a diesel.
BTW Duramaxes suck Dont say you werent warned, the reliability is pisspoor. The only diesel I would recommend is the Cummings on Rams no other diesel engines comes close.

Hondafan,

What do you base your opinion on about the duramax and its reliability? I've owned and used all three diesels and the only ones I don't recommend are the Ford 6.0 and 6.4.

Company I used to work for ran both duramax and cummins trucks, always loaded to the max and driven hard. They had great success with the duramax and it proved every bit as reliable as the cummins.

Since my new job does not require I pull anything with my truck, I traded my duramax on my ecoboost. That duramax gave me over 200,000 miles without a single engine repair with the exception of the water pump @ 150,000 miles.

My dad is a supervisor at a coal mine in Tx. They use the 2500 D-Max's. He says they are a great powertrain surrounded by a crap truck. Seldom a motor issue, but always something else.

Why does it matter to you? I can never understand why people take it personally when someone else has a bad experience and switches manufacturers. why all the negativity?

Cause he is an overly un-intelligent individual!! He even started his own thread that makes a direct attempt at starting a pissing match. But, at least he did offer some insight as to what his dad is an expert in!!
