Default Getting new rims, should i wax them?

All,

I posted over in the tire and wheel section but figured it would get more traffic here.

I'm getting new Method NVs in black/machined and want to keep them in great shape obviously.

I read some have waxed their rims to help keep them newer looking.

Has anyone done this and what are the results, worth it? I have collanite 845 wax to use.

100% worth it imo. When I had aftermarket rims on my Ranger, I waxed them every winter to keep them in good shape. Keeps the brake dust off the finish, and makes cleaning them on a weekly basis so much easier! And the shine.. I'll be waxing my rims this year as well now I have 20's on the F150!

845 or a good paint sealant like Guard & Gloss is easy, fast, and should last a month or more.

Wax them. It makes keeping them clean so much easier. I use 845 on my fuels it put a nice sine on them.

I coated mine with Bulletproof brand coating. It is a ceramic coating that stays good for 2 years and is very inexpensive. It keeps all kinds of dust and dirt off and works as not only a good wax/sealant, but as an actual wheel protectant as well.

Applies very similar to wax, only you don't buff it off. Protects significantly better too. These are my wheels after about 8 months of ownership with new tires on them. I only rinse them and occassionally hit them with soap. Notice you can see the reflection of the machined parts of the face of the wheel in the lip of the wheel and this is after rinsing them and drying off.

I had my polished wheels clear powder coated. I never had to polish them and just washed and rinsed and they looked brand new.

They look great. I am just branching into experimenting with coatings, and grabbed Wolfgang's new Uber Ceramic Coating...hopefully it goes well.

I've had the Methods for almost a year now and while I still like them, the finish doesn't hold up. The first problem is the simulated bead lock. It makes a lip that causes water to pool inside the lowest point. I have several white spots on the rim where the clear coat is damaged. Also the black painted part image the spokes is fading is areas.

That's what I'm trying to prevent with waxing. I assume it's just like paint on the truck. Take care of it and it will hold up vs not doing anything.
