Default Gear Shift on Column Gets Sticky

Does anyone else have this problem?

It's 7 o'clock in the morning and I roll down my windows as I get in my beloved red F150. Before I know it, my gearshift is sticky from the humidity in the air.

Obviously, I noticed this when I shifted the park or shift into gear.

If you have noticed this, what have you done to remedy it?

Thanks in advance,
Dwaine

EDIT: I'm not sure why I don't see my signature here...

my thought exactly, looks like “dirty crud” built up on it.

my takes several times to get all that off down to bare plastic.

That usually happens because of UV radiation from direct sunlight (not the heat)... it weakens the molecular bonds in some plastics and makes it soft and sticky just like a strong solvent would 'melt' it.
