Yesterday, my wife and I were at a co-worker's house for his son's 1 year birthday party. My wife knows him and his wife particularly well too since we have hunted and fished with them in the past. He used to own a 2011 F150 Screw 5.0 3.55 4x4 Screw, but recently traded it in for a 2013 Ram Hemi 3.92 4x4 Crew.

Anyways, My wife and I were sitting down eating at a table outside next to a couple(my co-workers brother-in-law) that I just got introduced to 30 minutes prior and we haven't really striked up a conversation with them yet so my wife and I were talking amongst ourselves. My wife said that she over heard that Bobby, my co-worker, got a new truck because he didn't like how his old truck pulled his boat. I confirmed this to her and told her that he said it didn't have the low end torque that he was wanting to pull his boat and hunting trailer even after he 5 Star tuned it. Not knowing Bobby that well, she said "Well why didn't Bobby get your engine?". I then told her that Bobby was a V8 purist and would not drive a V6 regardless if it could out perform his Hemi or not. Right after my wife said "That is stupid", the husband of the couple we were sitting next to decided to chime in and say "He's better off in a Ram". I then told him that it doesn't really matter as long as he is happy with what he has. He said I should drive the new Ram and proceeded to tell me about them. I stopped him short and told him that my sister has one just like Bobby's but in 2wd and I have even towed with it. I told him that the Hemi was decent, but I really didn't like the coils in the back which made me uneasy because the back end bounced so much. I think my Hemi being "decent" comment really set him off especially coming from a V6 driver as he put it and proceeded to tell me how his tuned Ram 2500 Hemi was the bees knees. I told him that is nice as my wife and I got up a to throw our plates away.

Apparently my "decent" comment still bothered him because about 30 minutes later he decided to bring it up as I was playing horseshoes. He kept on insisting that I go take his truck for a test drive. Hoping that he would forget, I told him that I would maybe after the game. Well, he didn't forget and threw me his keys right after we all shook hands on a good game. We went out to his truck that was parked right in front of mine on the side of the street. I kept trying to tell him that I don't need to test drive his since I have already driven my sister's new one, but he kept on insisting because his was tuned. I didn't want to drive it because I didn't want him to blow a head gasket when I tell him his Hemi is nothing special even after I drive it. I tried to stall driving it even more by talking about how his 2500 has leaf springs over the 1500 and I tried to pick other topics so I asked what rear ratio he had even though I knew they only came with 3.73 or 4.10 with a Hemi in a 2500. Get this HE DIDN'T KNOW. I so badly wanted to tell him "What kind of F'n idiot pick up truck owner, that supposedly uses it for towing like you say, does not know their rear gear ratio especially when your tow rating is determined by your rear gear". I was trying to be nice for my friends sake and since I didn't know the guy, I didn't say it. I found out by his axle code that it was a 3.73.

I decided to bite the bullet and just go for a test drive since he kept on being so insistent. As we started on a test drive, he started to bash my V6 in his own subtle and nice way. I am used to it by now because just mentioning that you own a V6 gaser half ton truck in south Texas was enough to get you laughed out of a bar a few years ago. Not so much now that the Ecoboost has proven people's ignorance wrong, but their are still some that will bash just because. Any who, we did a few WOT throttle runs getting on the highway, and I was not impressed to say the least. He kept on talking about how you don't get this kind of power out of a V6, and how his Hemi is a pulling machine. He also brought up how stiff his truck is for towing versus the 1500. I decided right then and their that I will not debate him and let my truck speak for itself. Instead, I stuck with my "it's decent" which pissed him off even more I think.

When we got back, I told him that he now has to drive mine. He insisted that he does not want to because he has new F150s at work and he already knows how they are. I asked if they had any Ecoboost. He said no that they were all V8s that he wasn't impressed with, and that my V6 wouldn't do any better. I insisted that since I drove his, he drives mine. Keep in mind that my truck is SoCal tuned which adds roughly another 65+ hp and 100+ lb-ft at the wheels versus the extra 30 hp and 35 lb-ft of his Diablo tuned Hemi.

As we were putting around the subdivision to get to the main road, his first comment was "Man, this thing must have a very low ratio first gear because this throttle has some pull to it down low, and I know it's not the V6". All I told him was that my truck was tuned and I did not tell him the estimated power numbers of 420hp/530 lb-ft of torque. I also was not going to try to "sell" my truck in any way like he did, and decided to let my truck do it for me like I usually do with the haters. Right before he got on the main road, I told him that he can go WOT, but to just try partial half throttle first. When he pulled on the main road, I heard a faint "holy s**t" as he went half throttle. As we were coming onto the highway I told him that he can WOT going up, but be careful because it will get up to traffic speed quick. He responded with "I don't think I need to floor it to get it to go, but here goes". The look on his face was priceless and he did not have to say a word. On the highway, I told him to try to accelerate while trying to hold 6th gear. He did, and it pulled us unlike his truck that needed to downshift in order to pick up speed that fast. He also mention how stiff and firm the truck feels just like his 2500. It was then that I told him that the F-150 with the EB/6.2L 3.73 is rated tow slightly more than his 2500 Hemi 3.73. He said "If I hadn't have driven this thing, I would not have believed you, but I can feel that it can handle it just by how it drives". He was silent the rest of the test drive. He did not mention his Hemi anymore for the rest of the time we were there even when we were playing against each other in horseshoes. All I thought to myself was "Now you know, so quit talking your ignorant bulls**t".

Sorry for such a long read, but I thought it was a funny story that some of you guys might like.

Hahah worth the read. Ignorance is bliss.

I am a V8 guy myself, and almost pulled the trigger on a new EB but I just couldnt pass my deal up and I love hearing a V8. But ill probably go EB when the new F150 comes out.

The power is just ridiculous.

Definitely worth the read... Just goes to show that people should be educated about whatever they're talking about

Fun story Al. I appreciate how you kept calm.

If he's not impressed by the Fords at work, but is impressed with his 2500, he's just plain ignorant. Most fleet F150s come with the 3.7. If he doesn't know gear ratios, I'd bet he's never popped the hood on his or any other truck...

I bet he is dying to trade that crappy Ram now!

Good story!
Thursday I went on a job where one of the guys that works there
had a new 2014 gmc. He was telling me how powerful it was
and it had even more power than his 2008 5.3 that he traded in
on it! I tould him I owned a eb and asked if he had drove
one. He said he didn't need to because he knew a V8 had
more power than a V6. Idid ask what gears he had and
he said 3.08.
He was a proud puppy.

Yeah, I can tell the guy didn't know much about trucks like he said he did, and just went off of his ignorant assumptions. He kept touting that his truck was rated to tow 13,100 lbs. I told him that only the 2500 Hemi with the 4.10 gear ratio is rated for that much, but his is a 3.73 which is rated 11,100 lbs. He didn't believe me until I showed him of of Ram's own website. He also didn't believe me that the F150 EB/6.2L 3.73 is rated to tow 11,300 lbs even after I showed him. The guy was a typical ignorant fanboy owner that just went of his own assumptions because Ram and his Ram driving friends told him so instead of doing his own research and believing the facts. Just like some Tundra owners that believe only a Tundra can pull a space shuttle, and that the other manufacturers can't given the same scenario. I kept it calm out of respect of my co-worker/friend, and because I didn't want me being in a fight a conversation topic around the water cooler at work. If it were one of my close friends that I didn't work with, then I would have handled it a bit differently and would have not held back as much on calling him out on his ignorance.

First time I drove the ecoboost I was just like the guy you were talking about. "Holy ****"

FWIW, who buys a gas 2500 ram anyway? The Hemi would be gutless in a heavy truck like that. Now, put in a Cummins and that'd be my HD truck of choice.

I must find the right people, as almost everyone I know respects all brands. Guy at local tire shop drives a 14 GMC and always compliments my truck and asked how its holding up, resulting in a quick drive. Another buddy with a Ram always tells me that although he wouldn't buy a ford, he's really impressed with everything in a Ford.

I like to think of myself the same way. I'd never go away from a Ford, but I have no problem complimenting features of other brands
