Default Full coilover vs. only shocks

Can someone outline the advantages and disadvantages with replacing the factory front shocks with full coil overs from f150lifts.com (using the Bilsteins as a base or his new Boss shock) versus only the Bilstein 5100s? Both provide a bit of a lift to level truck out. I am just trying to justify the price difference.

Other options and opinions are also welcome.

I have the Icon Stage 5 kit. For me, it's been a less than stellar experience. Though the product is solid it has not lived up to expectations....and given the rather high price paid, I would have expected much more. That being said there have been plenty of rave reviews for the icon kits, which made me choose the icon setup. Unfortunately, it just hasnt worked out...but that is just 1 out of countless number of other reviews on the forum...so take it for what its worth. Like any product, everything has its good and bad reviews.

Are you only looking to level the truck and get some performance out of her?

SlimChaChi, mainly to level the truck as I will be adding slightly larger tires. I had the Bilstein's in an 2009 F150 I had while living overseas and loved them. I took it to the dunes for some light offroading and loved the feel on the curves as I was in a country with nothing but traffic circles.

I am torn because I can pay 260 bucks for the 5100 front shocks and then pay someone to install them and would be invested at least $500. Or, I can buy front coilovers for $800 and install them myself since I would not need a spring compressor. So I am wondering if the extra $300 is worth it and what the difference in "feel" would be. In all actuality, I was looking at the full 3in lift kit from F150lifts.com which includes the rear Bilsteins and 2in blocks.

I think coilovers are more if you are planning to do serious offroading. Street, it seems like many are fine with just shocks.
