Default Fuel Gauge problem - Help!

Last night I got into my truck and the gas gauge read Empty, but I knew I had a half tank of Gas! I assumed someone stole my gas and went to the gas station...but it only took 17 gallons to fill up! After I filled up the tank read "Full".

Has anyone else had this problem??

Thanks!

I don't know if fuel tanks still use floats to detect fuel level but the problem I you described I've had in previous vehicles. In those cases it was the float getting stuck, filling it back to full refilled it. Somehow I'm betting that's not your issue though.

Thanks! I suspect it was an electronic problem.... Which scares me. No other problems in that dept so I'll keep my fingers crossed!

If it is still under warranty I would go back to the dealer and complain about the sending unit... I am with metro on that...

Last 2 fill ups i have had. the fuel gauge didn't read full. gauge read about 7/8's full.

It took about 5-6 key cycles. and about 100miles of driving within those cycles. for the fuel gauge to read full. or closer to it.

Anyone have that issue ?

I called ford and they said it usually ends up in a replacement sending unit
