Front end vibration
My truck: 2012 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4 Ecoboost
Mileage: 18K
Symptoms: Intermittent vibration and very low noise coming from the front-end while turning. Almost sounds like the front tires are grinding on something. It also only manifests itself when it is cold outside (Minnesota winters).
Note: I've read several posts on this forum about similar issues. A few folks were close to the answer, but none of them had quite what I was looking for. And many posters before me were frustrated because their dealers were not able to diagnose the root cause and address it. Hope that this helps someone.
Root Cause: Noise was coming from the Integrated Wheel End IWE Hub Locking Mechanism (Part #7453D6T). This part needed to be replaced.
Notes from the mechanic: Replaced both IWE Actuators and retested the 4x4 drive. Actuators were contacting Hub Gear in cold conditions.
Happy Motoring,
Mick
