With the 4A option, the front diff will turn lazily through fluid wash on the clutch in the transfer case.

I haven't done any study, but it doesn't take much water to turn 2qt of oil milky. Mine was also like that. Only changed it once at 150k so far. Zero issues with 4x4 in the winter.

Also, it seldom gets used, so it isn't warm enough to fight condensation.

thanks my new independent garage made me nervous. Then I went to Valvoline and paid $99. They flushed it five times and told me to come back again in a few hundred miles. No extra charges.

We are warned not to drive in 4wd on dry pavement, seems like the idea to do that (further back in the thread) is not a good one.
See the owners manual...

Drivers should possess a high level of mechanical understanding of their 4WD system BEFORE using 4wd on a high-traction surface.
Totally agree that most people should use 4wd on Gravel & soft surfaces only.

......then there's days where the road has glare ice in the shadows and dry pavement in the sun.....🧐
