Yes, the lights-on-door open chime still blares as usual. Probably because it doesn't care if the key is in or out. Lights on, door open = warning tone.

Yes, the truck still starts!

Love this mod... I have my key in with the door open frequently enough that it was really driving me crazy.

Funny thread because I like the 2011 chime WAY MORE than my old 07 chime. One of my favorite features on the truck. Sounds way better than CHUNG CHUNG CHUNG on the old truck that made me want to punch babies!

I guess to each his own. I kind of like the chime as a reminder when I leave the key in the ignition or forget to turn the lights. Isn't that the same chime that goes off if you don't fasten the seat belts? I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the seat belts inertia system not working if you disable the chime.

OK, first off...
  1. If the key-in/door-open chime doesn't bother you, DON'T DO THIS MOD!
  2. If you are not into modding your vehicle, DON'T DO THIS MOD!
  3. If cutting then maybe having to repair a wire is scary, DON'T DO THIS MOD!
  4. If you tend to freak out if things don't always go as you expect, DON'T DO THIS MOD!
Now that we have that out of the way, if you are still interested, and want to DO THIS MOD, the blue/gray wire seems to be dedicated to triggering the key-in/door-open alarm chime only.

On my truck, after cutting this wire:
  • Key/Door Chime altered. No persistant chime if you have the key in and the door open. This is exactly what I wanted.
  • No change to Easy entry/exit (automatically sliding the seat back when you take the key out), it works as before wether you set it to ON or OFF.
  • No change to headlight-on/key-out chime, it works as before.
  • (Obviously) seat belt system works as before...
As far as I can tell, absolutely the only difference after cutting this wire is eliminating the persistant key-in/door-open chime.

I like this mod. It just didn't kill enough chimes. If you want to play the radio with the door open (key in acc position), the chime still chimes after the mod.

Another chime killing mod is needed.

Be careful NOT to cut the blue wire in front coming from the key switch. Your truck won't start. Don't ask me how I know this.

If you don't want to cut any wires, just unplug the connector then take the blue/gray wire pin out of the connector. Just wrap some tape around the pin so it doesn't short out. Then just plug the connector back in.

Thanks a bunch to pfbz for starting this thread. Everytime I would open my door the chime would **** me off.

Those connector pins can sometimes be a bear to release without the correct tool, but that is a cleaner way to get it done.

I took a piece of yellow shrink-tube and put it over both pieces of the severed wire. It holds the wires together, eliminates any chance of a short, and will remind me 10 years down the road that those wires were together at one point.

Honestly though, after living with the mod for just a few days, I can't see ANY reason to ever reconnect that wire.

Cool video...thanks
the two seconds I have to hear the chime does not make the effort to do the MOD for me, but I can see how it could drive some folks crazy. If you electrical knowledge in other areas? How about a rewire work around so the nav keeps working when you are moving and trying to put in a location?

Thanks

That's how wrecks happen....Haha. I know it would be nice for a passenger to enter in addresses while moving but you can always just use voice commands to enter an address while moving. That works very well while driving down the road.
