Default ForScan DTC Question

So I have a DTC in the APIM module. Not sure how long it has been there.
I did replace the stock radio with an aftermarket unit (using MaestroRR) when I purchased the vehicle.

From my very limited understanding using ForScan; I think I can clear the fault, and see if it returns.
If it does not... then I'm guessing the vehicle may have been started while a harness was disconnected, resulting in the code.
If it does return... then I can begin looking further into the issue.

Is this the correct method of troubleshooting a DTC?

Josh,

If you went aftermarket, and used a bezel that removed the front controls - like if you went touch screen....you'll just have this code all the time, as that part is no longer present on the network.

I'm not sure it will be much of an issue, it shouldn't take any other modules off of the network. Are you seeing other issues?

Hi Tim,

Yes, that's exactly what I did with the radio.
No, no other issues whatsoever. Was just doing a little "truck-cleaning" this weekend; and figured I'd check for any errors.

I couldn't remember if there were any unused connectors after installing the pioneer and maestro.
So.. I'll clear it out and see what happens.

Thank you, my friend!

No problem, Josh!

Just a quick explanation - even if there were NO unused connectors, just remember that the likelihood of an aftermarket part being able to tell the truck "Hello, I'm here and working right" is pretty slim.

Of course, in this case, it is just the network noticing a missing module, as the aftermarket head unit doesn't require it at all. And being aftermarket and could go into anything, it won't send that data packet over the network.

I think I have that same code stored on my truck. I took the oem system out in favor of an Alpine nav system with new face plate and integrated climate controls. Nothing to worry about even if the code comes back. The system is expecting to see OEM and it's not there any more.

Lol.. absolutely That makes complete sense.
So even if it does return, it doesn't necessarily mean I have anything wrong.

No, there's nothing wrong.

Just like RLXXI said, it's looking for OEM parts, and they are sitting on your shelf. No biggie!

Oh that looks fantastic!
I went with pioneer. I still think I'm only using about 15% of the features available on the unit. LOVE the DVD player, output video to backseat monitors for kids, monitoring of engine stats. How cool

Nothing to worry about even if the code comes back. The system is expecting to see OEM and it's not there any more.
Excellent. Now, I still have to try it and see... out of 100% curiosity.

Sorry.. the sun is not my friend today when taking pics...

Mm-hmmm..... that "dirt cheap" F150

pioneer avh2550nex = $350 on sale
maestrorr (steering wheel controls) = $100
bezel and wire harness = $40 to $100

That's all that's needed to get started.
From there, you could upgrade 4 door speakers, and add amps and a sub.
