And I find that's fine and will always explain what I found and why it happens if I can. I was basically just trying to say most people don't need a babysitter to do their job.

Also sorry to the OP for jacking your thread

Appreciate the responses. Like a lot of folks here, I've done my own maintenance for years. Not as interested as I used to be and not as nimble either. They comped me for a couple of free ones and I'll keep an eye on them for sure.

While your right about everyone starting somewhere, and accidents do happen, I will agree with. I will also look over a tech's shoulder, to make sure the job is done to my standards.

Can I do it myself, yep, but I, as others on this forum, are at a point in our lives where we can afford to pay someone to do the work, that means "to the customer's standards", if you want to half *** your own work, cool, but mine won't be done that way.

It is customer's like us that pay to have work done that creates the availability of you having a job, you sure don't want to try and make a living off warranty repair do you?

I have always had a good relationship with dealers I take work to, they have no issue with me in the shop, nor with me talking with their techs. Some of them I used to work with when I worked in a Ford store years ago.

FWIW, I have never had to tell anyone how to do anything, when I do let them rotate wheels/tires, I only ask that they be torqued manually with a torque wrench, as I said, it has never been an issue, but based on some of your replies, it probably would have been had you worked on the car.

I would recommend lightening up just a tad, we are all on this board because we share the same enthusiasm for the same vehicles, no need to alienate one's self from others over this.

I worked at Ford for almost a decade and that's why I left, they expect the techs to live off warranty. The guys who don't bother to advance themselves and go to Ford training end up not being allowed to do the warranty work and they're the ones you're getting once your warranty expires.

Simple requests like the one you mentioned(torquing the wheels) or asking to see what's going on are no problem with me, I'll gladly share what's going on and talk to a customer.

It's this kind of attitude that bothers me, I don't need to deal with it. If someone wants to watch me like a hawk (and I have had that) then they get to sit around a lot by themselves while I'm "grabbing parts" or "looking for tools". Unfortunately the job is never finished when I return.

Nope. And you're the worst kind of mechanic. One I would never use, nor ever recommend. If you're easily distracted, you need to learn to focus when focus is necessary. Maybe you just need more experience, I don't know...

You are under-informed. That is a complete lie. Insurance is EXACTLY for customers to be out there in the shop; otherwise it would not be necessary at all. Employees have different insurance that covers them. So, if your shop has insurance (as it should), it is for the CUSTOMER, and any other potential peripheral occurances. What you're spouting off about is what you are told to say, even though it has no basis in reality.

I hope you become a good mechanic. I really do.

Then don't. *I* am the customer. What I say goes with my vehicle. Period. If you don't like it, get another job. Welcome to the new reality...

Actually no the insurance is not for customers! There's a sign right on the door and it states pretty much that. Employees not wearing ppe can pretty much suck it too according to workers comp. Maybe it's different where you're from, or maybe you are right but that's because you have to pay your own hospital bills. I don't know.

What do you do for a living? Can I come sit on your desk while you try to do what ever and spout off about whatever crosses my mind? Lets see if you get distracted, oh by the way I'm an expert at what you do so you had better do it right.

I hope you become a good customer. I really do

By the way your insults about me needing more experience and being a bad mechanic really hurt my feelings, maybe I'll go see a doctor and get them checked for free. Also yes, please never come to my shop and don't recommend me to your friends. I have enough work and side work(because I'm good at what I do) that I really don't need you around.
