Default Ford Power Running Board issue after battery died

Hey guys. My battery finally died so I replaced it and ever since then, my factory driver side power running board has been taking 14 seconds to retract instead of the normal 3 seconds.
Passenger side works normally.

I have tried resetting the module via forscan, checked for DTC's (none), and disconnecting the battery and doing the KAM reset procedure.

If I go through the out/in on the menu, they both function at the same speed and go in immediately.

Any other thoughts? I was going to run through the pin out tests, but figured I would ask here before going through that work.

How was the board functioning before the battery replacement? Also, whats the pin out test?

Normal Operation: Out when you opened the door and retracted within 4 seconds. It literally happened when I replaced the battery.

Also the pinpoint test is page 6399-6403 of the service manual pdf...

I have read about people replacing the battery and frying the module which causes the slow operation.

Mine are really slow too and I’ve been lubing them up for the last 2-3 days and they are getting quicker.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread but does anyone know why my boards don’t go up when the truck is off but have no issue retracting when the engine is running?

When you changed the battery what sequence did you do disconnecting/reconnecting the cables? You should remove the negative cable first then positive and reinstall in reverse order, positive connected first then connect the negative cable last.

I've seen modules get zapped if not done in the proper sequence. Try disconnecting the negative cable only for 15 mins, reconnect and see how they retract.

Did that process, always do for those reasons stated. I even wrap the negative cable in a rag so it can't touch anything.
I will try just the negative cable and leave the positive plugged in and not jump them together. Hopefully that works. I am leaning towards the power running board module got zapped somehow...The boards work fine otherwise. If I open the door and close it quick before the board gets fully down, it retracts instantly. Same if I go from out to in through the IPC settings.

The real question is, is it worth the $176 for a new PRB module or do I just live with a 14 second close time for now.

There are diagnostics for the boards. Most times a code will be set in the BCM to help guide thru the steps.

Hey RNL,
Do you know how to run the self test on the power running board module? I can't find that in the service manual. Do you need IDS for that?

I believe so, the diag info is listed in the manual under body/exterior trim and ornamentation. There's a lot of tests that use just a volt meter but the first step is pulling codes from the BCM.
