Default Ford potential transmission down shift issues that could increase the risk of crash.

Today Ford finally issued a recall of a defect with crash potential that first appeared on this Forum in June 2011.

The thread has been closed but fortunately the information is still present.

The purpose of my post is to inform owners that use the Forums, to please take people seriously when they post a specific concern or problem. As you can see many posters did not, only called him a troll.

Also to note the Manufacturer did not offer assistance, nor did the individual dealers.

I’m fairly certain my Dealer would not have taken a hands-off, if I presented them with a similar problem.

The trucks we drive are some of the very Best designed and Built! But occasionally a defect occurs, and when that happens, hopefully it’s handled appropriately and the owners are treated with the appropriate care and concern.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co said on Wednesday it was recalling about 1.48 million F-150 pickup trucks in North America due to a potential transmission downshift issue that could increase the risk of a crash.

Ford said select 2011-2013 model year trucks with six-speed automatic transmission could experience an unintended downshift into first gear without warning, which could result in the loss of vehicle control. Ford is aware of five accidents, including one report of whiplash potentially related to the issue.

The link below is the closed thread with details.

Initial post of concern.

That thread is 6 years old. There are a bunch of other threads that are younger and less annoying than the last two pages from what i read.

Here’s some useful info.

The fix: Dealers will provide a no-cost software update.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Ford customer service at 866-436-7332.

NHTSA campaign number: NHTSA has yet to release a number for this recall. Ford’s own number for this F-150 recall is 19S07.

Glad Ford is finally owning up to this. I was in a friend's 2012 when it downshifted at highway speed. Luckily the road was pretty empty and we avoided an accident, but it could have easily been much worse if there was more traffic on the road. I'll be sending my 2013 in for the recall as soon as my local dealer has the fix.

I called yesterday when I heard about this and they are taking my 2013 in next week. Better safe than sorry!

The OP of the quoted thread had a 2010 truck. The recall is for 2011-2013. So, no fix for his truck?

It appears dealers have had the fix since Wednesday. My truck was at the dealer for service work on Wednesday and they updated/reprogrammed the PCM per the recall at that time. I was a bit surprised to see something like "performed recall 19S07" on the paperwork when I picked it up, especially after seeing the recall was announced that morning.

I experienced this downshifting numerous times back in June of 2018 and had to have the Output Speed Sensor replaced. As this was not cheap to have fixed I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way I can be reimbursement for that cost? I know the the notice states that, "THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN", however I notified the NHTSA when this happened and was forced to cover these costs in order to keep this really messed up downshifting from killing me.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
