Default Ford mud guards

Has anyone installed the Ford OEM mud guards on a 2012 truck with fender flares? I bought a set from the dealer and the front went on fine as per included instructions, but the rear don't seem to fit very well. It looks like the same part was made for multiple model years. The instructions and included hardware don't match my truck. There is about a 1/4" gap between the bottom bolt hole and fender flare, enough that the stock bolt is too short. I could just replace that bolt with a longer one, but I don't like the gap and am wondering if they gave me the wrong part number.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but if anyone has installed their own and knows what I'm talking about, could you tell me what you did? I would have gone with the Weathertechs, but they don't make the front guards for a 2012 SCREW with running boards.

I have a 2011 and know what you are talking about. Here is a thread about it that I responded too several months back. All four are still on my truck, just didn't want to bother with messing with it.

Thanks for the reply and link. I tried to install the rears, but the fender support rod bolt isn't long enough to go through the mud guards and attach to the rod. I'll talk to the dealer about it. You'd think that for $100, Ford could make flaps that fit their own trucks better. Are you satisfied with the fit? Sounds like they are durable enough to last awhile.

I noticed that too on my 2012 Supercrew FX4 just the other day, the dealer puts on OEM Mud Guards,a OEM Bug Shield and an OEM Bedliner on EVERY F150....luckily I got it all for about 60% of the $$ they add to the price thru neog. but if they are in fact the Wrong REAR ones I am going to question them about it for even that much money. That push pin doesn't even make it to the fender flare, just filling in the hole really and it has no real support in that area. Thanks for bringing this up. Just looked and they say 2004 F150 Rear w/wheel lip moulding, thing is they are held on with the 2 small screws in the front of the shield and on the bottom rear underside the bolt it still attatched to the moulding (not thru the shield) and a black push pin in the hole in the shield. What the? So the 2 small screws are all that is holding the rear ones on. There is about 1/4" gap between the bottom of the lip moulding and the flap on the Dr. side, and even a bigger gap on the passengers side. About 1/2". Gheeze.

My guess is that they are the correct part number, but just a poor fit designed to fit multiple model years. When I asked the parts guy why I should spend $100 on Ford mudflaps instead of aftermarket, he replied that Ford was an exact fit designed for my truck that would look better than the others. I'm happy with the front flaps though. I wouldn't be so bothered if they were half the price, which still would leave Ford plenty of profit margin!
