Did this work for you?

I have an 2011 F150 with a confirmed bad evaporator sensor and have not been able to locate one.
I was thinking of doing the same as you did.

I never found it separately and it looked like the one I posted above was NOT the correct one. I ended up reusing the old sensor and so far it is working.
Still seems like a cheap part buried in the dash and worth replacing just because?

Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll try to find one used, or one that will fit in the harness clip.
I'm planning on just cutting a hole in the box and placing it in the fins, supposedly like the one in there now.

Yes it just sort of plugs into the fins. They have different sizes and the F-250 one did not look like my F-150 one?
You do want it it the factory spot which is way deep in the box. I don't think it would work very well if not in the stock position.

Can you explain where it is placed?
If i went through the front of the box with a small hole, would i be able to place it in the correct position, you think?

I did not take a picture but it's on the bottom of the evaporator core. Remember it keeps the evaporator from freezing up so has to be in direct contact with the coils. Just somewhere in the plastic box won't work. You will need to split the factory plastic box open as it's all one piece and Ford only services it as one giant assembly. Then the two half's are plastic welded together so you will need to drill these out and replace them with metal screws after the repairs.

I went all thru this and with these trucks since the don't come with a cabin filter (REAL bad idea Ford!) and the evaporator is the first thing the air goes thru when entering the climate control system. The evaporator core will be full of crap! Mine was partially blocked it was so bad and mine was about what you would expect to see normally. You need to remove the entire box and plan a proper repair. The good thing is it's a lot cheaper than buying the giant plastic box assembly from Ford! That way you change the heater core, ALL blend doors and the evaporator core.

So the dash needs to come out but after research I found you could slide the dash back using long bolts. Then pivot the passenger side of the dash board open more. Then the entire climate control box can be accessed and removed. It's a big job but the only way to fix all the problems.

Some good video's out there and watch this one to see how bad the evaporator core will be! Also be aware the instructions are different for different engines and different option levels. Such as regualr climate control and dual climate controls. I have the 5.0L V-8. Try to find a video with the same set up as your truck.

We had an 04 Eddie Bauer Expedition that had a same or similar issue with the temp probe back in the day. The fix as I recall: Ford cut a hole in the box and inserted the new probe and connected it. They then covered the hole with metallic tape. They had a TSB on it back in the day (poor ac performance unit freezing) and when we picked up this vehicle used, I came across it and Ford went 50/50 on the repair with me since the vehicle was out of warranty. I paid $75 bucks for the 150 repair at the dealer.

While I can see how you could do this currently, you cant get the correct temp probe. Unless you bought a new or used evap with temp probe and removed the temp probe. Just a thought and challenge!

I will try to find a used temp probe or an aftermarket that will suffice before dropping 2 to 3 grand on this 2011. At least give it a try first.
